Hi Kijan “FLOURISH”, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I protect people who can’t, or won’t, protect themselves. I’ve always been a protector by nature and by trade. I am a seasoned EP and Physical Security Professional with extensive global experience creating client support programs and providing executive protection, threat and risk assessment, covert/counter and protective surveillance and logistics management to Fortune 100 corporations, philanthropic organizations and individuals. I have been providing physical security services, executive protection, and consulting to Fortune 100, 500, 1000 and U.S. government clients, both domestically and abroad, since 2013. Since I began my calling as a Protection Professional, I have worked in more than 30 countries across Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, South America, Central America and North America. I was always taught to get a good job and retire at 60. One day I realized that all that does is help build someone else’s dream and purpose. I believe I was put on this earth to do something more. So, I traded in working 9-5 for someone else to working 24/7 for myself. I am inspired by the possibility of something new. I’m inspired by all of the people of our world letting their creative lights shine. But, most of all, I’m inspired by failure. Continuous effort and failure is the only path to success. The more I fail, the closer I feel to success.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I won’t say it’s been a struggle; however, I can say it’s been an interesting journey. The biggest challenge has been the hurry up and waiting game. Being prepared for the worst-case scenario but doing everything I can to prevent it is the paradox of the protection industry. However, unlike years in the past, what has made this even more enjoyable is having the right team around and showing people of all status’ that safety should be their number one priority. People usually don’t want to spend the money on safety until an event happens that triggers fear.

As you know, we’re big fans of Project Spero. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Balance is probably our most important attribute and value. We feel that the balance must be applied to all things because it is a requirement for homeostasis. Too much of anything is not good and the only way you know that you have enough is through the harmony that comes from a result of finding the right balance of anything. Because our security strategies are highly customized to our clients, balance followed by flexibility are a primary and secondary consideration in all that we do.

Executive protection is an ever-living and changing ecosystem. As the clientele’s preferences change so must the practitioner’s focus. By making customer service equally as important as security and evolving our security strategies with the needs of our clients as well as the most salient security industry tactics, we are able to maintain mutually beneficial efficient protective measures with our users long-term.
