Art & Life with Reggii

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggii.

Reggii, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up as the middle child in a family of six children. We were constantly on the road, moving from place to place, and traveling all over the states. It was not your average upbringing. My life has always been an exciting adventure and has allowed me to experience and see so much at a young age, yet it also came with challenges. The traveling made it difficult to start and maintain friendships; so I found a friend in music.

At 12 years old, I started to focus on learning instruments and writing songs. My music evolved as I got older and I decided to pursue it as a career. At the start of 2016, I moved to Los Angeles to begin my musical journey at the Los Angeles College of Music. For the first time in my life, I got to spend most of my time playing and creating music. Since graduating with a degree in Songwriting & Composition, I have grown my online presence through streaming platforms like Spotify, where I have now gained over 25 million streams.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a musical artist but first and foremost, my passion is writing songs. The writing process and songs themselves, have many forms and variables. When creating something out of thin air, it is up to the creator to make it in whichever way they please. That is the beauty of it all. When writing, my process will often look different with each song. Sometimes it will start with a chord progression or a lyric idea. Sometimes I will write the whole song acapella before adding an instrument. The inspiration varies each time as well. It could be a rush of emotion, a story idea, or practicing writing a song inspired by another artist or piece of music that I like.

I’m am a true lover of variety and it shows itself in my music. I write in multiple genres and styles. More music will be coming out and it will likely be much different than what is out right now. My creative expression changes and grows with me and through time.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
For me, success as an artist, has never been a destination, it is simply how I live out my life through music. The money, the fame, and the followers only mean so much. If the music that I am making and putting out is not bringing life to me and those around me, it is not successful. But if I can manage to grow as a person through my music and help others to grow as well, that is true success as an artist.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Check me out on Spotify, Apple Music, and on all other streaming platforms for originals and covers. Although, I also have more underground or unfinished work of mine on Instagram, YouTube and Soundcloud.

You can keep up with my show dates and times through Spotify, Songkick, and Bandsintown. I will be playing here in LA throughout the year of 2020.
