Story & Lesson Highlights with Mike Peele

Mike Peele shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Mike, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually start my day’s around 5:30am-6:00am, so the first 90min of my day is me waking up and showing some gratitude to see another day. I do some meditation, write in my gratitude book, pull myself together and walk my dog. Come back in, have my first meal (unless I’m intermittent fasting). I then look over my list of things to do or complete for that day and then get myself ready for the gym. I also don’t turn on my phone til I’ve done all these things and been up and going for at least 2-3 hours. having my time before I let the world in.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Mike Peele and I’m and all around creative. There are many lanes to me, Actor, Voice-over, Choreographer and fitness personality and creator. I’m what I like to call a Creative Ecosystem. I dream, eat and sleep creativity and the betterment of one’s self. I have a BA in Film/Television and Media Production. I’ve lived in LA for the past 13 years and have been blessed to do what I love for 25+ years.

Working with artist like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Madonna. Shooting over 13 commercials, 8 feature films, performing on the Oscars and so much more. It’s not always easy but I still wake up everyday and I’m thankful I was given gifts and talents to create and hopefully put out great things into the world.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I think the relationship that I have with my mom as a kid, teen and adult really shaped a lot for me. My mom raised me by herself (single parent) and she always had a strong work ethic, self confidence and she taught me and showcased that whatever I wanted to do or be I would have to put in the work. She showed me to not be afraid and just go for it, whatever it may be. My mom’s strength is something that I have but every year since I was 21 it seems to get stronger and stronger. My mom always showed up for me and supported me but she didn’t take crap from anyone lol, including me.

She has taught me so much and I am still learning from her til this day.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been a few times in my life that I wanted to give up but it was only because I felt like I couldn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. However, anytime that I have wanted to throw in the towel but as soon as I got still and listen things would start to move or happen. Also I feel the moment we feel like we want to give up, the time things are hard or difficult that’s when things are about to turn around for you.

Things might not change when you want but they do, when the time is right and things are align. Just think about the times you wanted to give up, you thought you weren’t going to make it through and then…..you did.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
At all cost I will always protect my mind, creativity, soul, space and peace of mind. Those things aren’t up for sale or negotiation. There is so much coming at us on a daily basis, so much to do, so much information and you should have spaces where you feel safe, can express yourself and places where you can shut things and people out and just be.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My soul would remain. My love, care and laughs would remain. The joy I get creating would remain and the effect and blessings that I’ve had on folks lives and them on mine would reman.
