Story & Lesson Highlights with Mass Appeal The DJ of Los Angeles

Mass Appeal The DJ shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Mass Appeal, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Who are you learning from right now?
Right now a lot my biggest inspiration comes from my friends and fellow creatives. I have a big circle of people who are doing really innovative and creative things. They’re not lazy or unmotivated. They’re innovators, entrepreneurs, and go-getters. It’s motivating to watch how hard they work, and I’ve been able to implement some of their habits and mindset into my own life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mass Appeal The DJ, but I prefer everyone just call me Mass. I’m a professional DJ based in Los Angeles, and I’ve been DJing for 13 years. I’ve always had a deep love for music and for people, and working in nightlife lets me connect both. Working in the nightlife industry gives me the best of both worlds. Every week I get to create memories, build new relationships, and add value through the way I DJ and share music. Recently, I’ve been digging deeper into my sets and expanding the genres I play, which has made my sound more versatile than ever. Creatively, I feel like I’m in the best zone I’ve ever been in, and I know I’m only going to keep elevating and reaching new levels with my sets.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’m a kid from Indianapolis who grew up loving urban culture, sneakers, sports, and music. These interests have always pushed me to be the best version of myself and they still motivate me. As a kid, I studied those worlds closely and used them as motivation to keep striving for more in life and in my career.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell myself to be intentional with everything and to manage time wisely. Time is one of the most valuable assets we have, and how you use it can change everything in life and business. A lot of us struggle with time management, and I still work on it every day. If I could give my younger self advice, I’d tell myself to make it a top priority from the very beginning. Time is one of the most valuable assets we have, and learning to respect it early would have made my path smoother.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes I would say so. I’m always my authentic self, I’m just a chill guy who plays music and loves people. So everything I represent on social media is the real me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
As a creative, I’d regret not putting my ideas and projects out into the world. I owe it to myself, and to my future family, to stay creative and share my work. For me, it’s not just about playing music, but about putting in real effort and leaving something meaningful behind.
