We recently had the chance to connect with Love Feels Best and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Love , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Recently an opportunity arose to visit Kenya. As I write this I am enjoying my last day in the Maasai Mara. This morning I had the best breakfast feast ever out on the Mara with a safari camp (Ishara) that is absolutely amazing. My top priority of the day was to photograph a Chetah and I’m elated to share that during my final “Game drive” we were successful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I was living in Hollywood just above Cactus tacos on Vine St in a home once used by Keneth Anger to make art films. I was seeing lots of street art and graffiti and it inspired me to make art that is accessible to all. After careful consideration I decided to adopt Love Feels Best. A simple observation about life. When we practice compassion and celebrate diversity we live a more interesting, flavorful and robust life. I wanted to remind people, as they rush around, that maybe the default or impulsive response to aggravations and stresses would not serve them best. If we take a moment to consider what would make us feel best at the end of the day, I this most of us agree love is the answer. It’s my goal to use public art and music to remind us of this observation.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I never felt right describing myself as an artist until I crossed paths with Kozik, a well known modern artist. I felt like the title was more appropriately reserved for people who earn their living making art. He helped me recognize my strengths and realize I am very much, and always will be, a creative person and artist at heart.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Ignore adults and societal pressures as catering to them is unlikely to result in joy. We all have our own path that must be allowed to unfold naturally with as little interference as possible. Adults tend to be jaded and diminished so you should always follow your heart and believe in yourself.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
If there is a trait I possess that has attracted friends and lovers over the course of my life it is honesty and authenticity. As Dr Seuss taught us, “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.”
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Watching the news and using my phone instead of meeting new people, seeing new places, tasting new flavors and learning new fascinating facts about how nature, people and the world in general operate.
