We recently had the chance to connect with Erika Stormm and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Erika, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of music and my day job, hiking and camping has really been so fulfilling to my soul. Especially during a season where the common cold is going around so fast, it’s harder to sing for me during these times but I’m so grateful for the life I do have outside of singing. There is always so much to be grateful for.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Erika Stormm, I’m a 24 year old Latin indie singer/songwriter based in the Los Angeles County. I’ve been writing songs since I was eight years old and my musical journey bloomed from unfortunately, very painful experiences. After a long time of enjoying singing without recording, I realized this: when someone or something saves your life, you almost have a universal obligation to share it with the world. Being in the music industry wasn’t something in my vision at all. I disliked the music industry very much as a young person due to so many articles going over the exploitation of artists that would happen within it. What drove me into pursuing a career with music after all, despite the fears of industry standards and demands was not putting myself in a box. At the age of 22, I started booking my own venues and highlighting some of the greatest underground independent artists along with myself here in Los Angeles. I had been performing show after show since 2019 but took a year break somewhere in between. I am now 24, did a west coast tour this year and have two upcoming projects releasing in 2026.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I love this question and I think my answer would be that I no longer believe what people say about me is true. As a kid in elementary and middle school, I let other kids make me feel very small and really took their words to heart even though they were obviously childish and unreasonable. A part of me believed that their painful words were true because of my own young insecurities and things I was going through at the time that made everything seem so personal. As an adult now, I think the same understanding applies. It doesn’t matter what I have going on in my personal life, if someone is intentionally trying to put me down it’s because they’re projecting their own insecurities and that understanding alone is so liberating to me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There absolutely were times in my life where I wanted to give up my pursuit in music due to regular everyday life demands, economic reasons, lack of support, exploitation, and pressure. Eventually I had to come to terms with these experiences and still not leave my vision behind. As difficult as it may be or get, it has always paid off in the end for me in one way or another. One thing I’ve learned about the universe, is that it really listens and when you work hard for something, you harvest the fruits from all the seeds you planted.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My personal philosophy of life is that the universe and god work like a song. When I harmonize with that song, I channel my potential to the fullest. It can be difficult to always be in that field of energy but everyday I set my intentions and pray. Life isn’t easy but when you look at it through a metaphoric lens and compare it to some of your greatest passions, I think you have all the answers you need.
If some of my closest friends were presented with this question, I think they’d say peace and good influence is what matters to me at my core. All my friends know I’m a family love bug and a nature enthusiast. If they’d say anything else, it’d be my humor and laugh. I love keeping a smile on me because I never know who needs it.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think what people would most misunderstand about my legacy would be a number of things! Haha, it doesn’t really matter to me if its coming from a hateful place but if anyone did care enough to ask about something they didn’t understand about my brand, I’d be more than happy to talk about it! At the end of the day, I’m community oriented and love talking to people. I would just hope that people know I’m always well intended and have hope in humanity.
