Good morning BeNeca, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
There are definitely times when I’m so grateful that I didn’t act fast because I’m often reminded in retrospect, that the periods between my desire to move quickly, and GOD’s timing for me to move forward, allows me to grow in knowledge and understanding, accelerates my character development and makes way for things to move into place to support the foundation of my next steps.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is BeNeca Ward and I am the CEO of Moments of Focus® a Brand and Leadership Development firm in Los Angeles where we work with everyone from entrepreneurs, executives, professional athletes, tv/film directors, fortune 100/500 company leaders, universities, young professionals, churches and so on. I serve as an Executive Advisor, Executive Coach and Strategic Partner to help clients multiply their individual gifts by strategically focusing on their Purpose and its positioning in both the marketplace and the world. Our programs help people identify, build and expand their visions into models that can serve others at the highest level. The work that we do is unique because our programming and books are both specific enough to support all professionals (various industries, levels of experience and ages) and yet tailored to meet the needs of our clients’ exact needs. I started my career in tv and film which provides perspective to my clients who are looking to create, develop and produce. I have had the privilege to work in corporate and entrepreneurial settings which lends to my experiences and ability to help others move from concept to creation, branding to marketing, business strategies to partnership development…to expansion and more. I am very clear that everything I have been exposed to has been for such a time as this; to share with others who are interested in utilizing my experience and resources for their advancement. Currently we are extending our reach to serve more people through our Moments of Focus® Brand and Leadership Development programs for executives, founders and entrepreneurs, company & nonprofit employees and young adults, through our Intern to VP® Coaching Program. We’re also focused on our partnerships like the Junior Achievement Eighteen Under 18® program where we work with 18 incredible young adults yearly to prepare them to further develop their existing companies, non-profits, community work or positions in preparation to work in the industry of their choice. Another body of work that I am excited about is the work that we are doing to establish a private Christian school specializing in faith-based holistic athlete development in the Dallas, Texas area.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with GOD shaped how I see myself. I’ve learned who I am by what HE Said and through the opportunities HE’s presented for me to walk through. Those opportunities taught many lessons and gave me chances to practice being the me I was made to be. HIS Direction combined with my experiences have made me who I am and through our relationship, I learn more daily.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me first-hand about the beauty of endurance, resilience, patience, trust, faith and having the courage to breathe through the times of fire while holding onto GOD’s Strength (with a bold belief that I would make it out better than I was before…) in a way that a filtered success never could have.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to follow everyone else’s pattern to be successful, teach from the same curriculum made by others, speak from the stage like everyone else, show up to the same events as everyone else and live like everyone else rather than to tap into your own specific gifts given to you to share with the world.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Both. I can see how I was born, prepared and instructed to live the life I’m living based on all of the good, hard and interesting experiences I’ve had that essentially grew the fruit that I now get to share with clients today.
