Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Dong.
Hi Victoria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a passionate sound designer grew up in the Northeast of China. I moved to Los Angeles in 2019, with an academic background in Ancient Chinese Linguistics from Peking University.
During my studies at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, I have dedicated myself to enhance my craft as a sound designer and re-recording mixer. I finds joy when my sound design effectively convey the director’s narrative vision. My versatility and proficiency enable me to work well across a diverse range of genres.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not smooth. USC was a private school and I often feel isolated surrounded by kids from rich family. As a single mother with a 5 year old boy, I find each and every purchase/investment has to be “correct”. I won the Lucas Family Foundation Scholarship, took 2 TA shifts, as well as jobs outside of school to survive the 3 years of expensive education.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am dedicating myself to working professionally in film/animation sound design, mix and recording.
I think my personal strength is that I can work under pressure and I get things done fair quickly. I always have a clear goal when a work is assigned to me, and I power my way towards it. I have passion for being productive and competitive in the field that I am good at. As for now I am most confident about my skill in field sound recording. I work fast and sneak into the tight schedule of the time on set, as well as make sure the sound quality is loud, clear and textured.
What makes you happy?
I find myself happy when I am at peace with my surroundings. To achieve that I usually urge myself to do a good job at work, keep my apartment tidy, and helping the people I love as much as I can. Because for me the true happiness comes when lives(human, animal, plants) around me are comfortable, so that I can enjoy a moment of relaxation.
