Rising Stars: Meet Tyler Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Hall.

Tyler, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from FIDM with a degree in Merchandise Product Development and I’ve been designing for as long as I can remember but “professionally” for about seven years now.

My love for fashion started out as a childhood hobby. I would find myself carrying a sketchbook, constantly drawing in it and sewing any piece of fabric I could get my hands on. I’ve just always known that this is something I wanted to seriously pursue and have always been so moved by art and fashion. Believe it or not, I had my sights so set on this as a career path, I only applied to FIDM and I was accepted!

Fast forward to now, I’m the owner, designer, and creative director of TYLER AND HALL. My namesake is a slow fashion contemporary womenswear line that I launched in May 2021. Creating this brand has been my dream since I was as young as seven years old. All of my pieces are intuitively designed to embody the essence of feminine energy and the beauty in masculine energy, putting a really big emphasis on comfort and quality. I also work a full nine to five job designing swimwear and womenswear.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not but that’s all a part of the learning process! Being a business owner is a struggle in itself. I made it a priority to work in the apparel industry and learn as much as possible before I launched my own business and even doing that, there are still hurdles I come across almost daily. Including the fact that I do everything from design, marketing, shipping and customer service myself.

It takes a VERY strong-willed person not only to launch a business but to trust yourself enough to keep at it. You have to really believe in yourself and the stories you’re trying to tell to move forward. I always tell myself, “the business only moves if you do” and sometimes feeling defeated is easier than not. You just keep the faith and do the work.

Sometimes I find that I second guess/am really hard on myself which leads to me overthinking tasks or designs. Trying to find balance in between my brand, my full-time job and my personal life all while trying to avoid burnout has also been very challenging throughout this process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My brand TYLER AND HALL is my most proud work. Seeing other people feel as strongly as I do about my brand and wearing my pieces brings me so much joy.

TYLER AND HALL is a black-woman owned, intuitively designed and ethically operated business based out of and manufactured in Los Angeles, CA. I specialize in women’s contemporary clothing and I would say I’m known for the small yet special details within the garments and the utilizing the color black.

I’m inspired to create timeless pieces that’ll inspire the modern woman to feel free and secure within herself and establish a community for and of these women. The brand embraces feminine and masculine energies because there’s a sense of elegance and mystery to behold between the two. I focus on building well-fitting silhouettes with special details that you’ll always be able to incorporate into your wardrobe and always want to come back to. I believe that’s what sets me apart from others.

People can work with and collaborate with me by reaching out to me directly! I love building relationships and cool stories with other creative people.

As far as supporting me, take a look at the website and socials! Tell with a friend. Buy a piece. I’ve discovered that a lot of my clients come from word of mouth and I think there’s something so special about that. Even if someone weren’t to buy something or directly engage with the socials, I’ve found that I’m brought up in rooms that I wouldn’t necessarily be in myself and I appreciate that more than I could ever express.
