Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Young.
Timothy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was younger I found out I had dyslexia and Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) and it was hard for me to articulate exactly how I was feeling and express myself. I later on in high school found my brothers camera and started learning how to take pictures and discovered that I loved to take portraits of people and I started using concepts to show how I was feeling or tried to get my story told through the pictures. I decided I wanted to be apart of these pictures and to be the face of them. So then I started doing that. I would make my brother take them and I would do all the editing and creative direction on these shoots. I then started posting them on Instagram and it has opened a door into the modeling world for me. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do and I’m so lucky to try and go for this dream. I’m not signed right now, but I moved to California to pursue my dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. But I was not experiencing to have one. For everyone in the creative world, it isn’t easy. Not for most people. It’s been hard for me to get singed and I submit myself to agencies and I’ll go to casting calls all the time. It’s not where I make my living right now so I’ve been in between jobs and trying to work modeling around that. But what I am so so lucky to have it friends in the creative world with me and we all constantly create together. So when I’m not submitting, I’m creating and posting it to my instagram as my portfolio so others can see and reach out and I get to connect with some really cool people and get to come up with some of the coolest projects.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would say my career path I’m trying to make my full time job would be modeling. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do and I feel so lucky that I have a chance at doing it! Along with that, I would love to get into more creative direction and styling. I have found those to be a big inspiration to me with my modeling and I kind of mesh them all in together. I just love to be around any and everything creative.
How do you define success?
I don’t think theres a certain way to define success. For me it would be be defined as being able to do what I love and making it my job and career. I think different benchmarks would like, working on a big campaign for a brand I absolutely love, or working with some of the most creative people I look up to.
