Rising Stars: Meet Teresa Ofoia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Ofoia.

Hi Teresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out dancing Hula at school in Hawaii when I was two years old. Moved to Virginia when I was five and continued Hula training off and on throughout my life. Studio training for Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, and Hip Hop didn’t actually begin until my sophomore year of high school (I thought late at that time). Once I began training in a studio, I was just obsessed and around that same time “Dance Life” on MTV was POPPIN so I also just knew I was moving to LA, lol. Growing up, I always used to sing AND dance but I was SO stage fright. I think dance is just what allowed me to get on the stage. Once I moved to LA, it was another interesting ride haha but I got into the professional dance industry a little under five years ago and haven’t really stopped working since. I’ve been very blessed with a very full career in such a short time and I’m very excited to keep growing and exploring all of my gifts.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road, lol for anyone I don’t think. But for me, I used to struggle a lot with my self-esteem and confidence. And that was something I really just had work on myself. Of course, booking major roles or working with major artists would boost it for a moment but until I did (still doing) the internal work myself, I always seemed to come back to feeling not enough.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Artist. I am very creative by nature, my mind just runs with ideas all the time (sometimes even when I don’t want it to, lol). What I am known for at this point, I think is Dancing 🙂 . I’ve toured America twice with Chris Brown and the world with Tyga. In between, I’ve worked with many different artists for Award shows, Tv shows, and Music Videos. You probably know me from music videos lol I’ve been in a good amount of those. I also design my own merchandise/clothing and make music. Both of which will be pulling more attention in the future :). Hm, what am I most proud of?…. I’m proud of myself. I don’t really know what sets me apart from others haha but I think it might be my energy. I’m pretty intentional about finding ways to bring myself to every job I do… I think thats a superpower everyone has and just by default sets me apart.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
A book I love and feel like I’ve been reading for forever at this point is ‘A Return to Love’. I read it just a few pages at a time to let it sink in because it will literally change my mood or perspective on a situation or person if I’m feeling a way. Haha, Blogs, I don’t. Podcast, sometimes – can never go wrong with Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday. And apps – I feel when used in the right way, Instagram is amazing for researching fashion and just being exposed to different sh*t. lol
