Rising Stars: Meet Soffi Yessmann of Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soffi Yessmann.

Hi Soffi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The South Bay Club started really naturally. I grew up here, so in the beginning, I was just highlighting families I knew—friends I grew up with, local spots I’d been going to forever. It was super personal. Almost immediately, it just started to grow organically. I think people connected with the idea of celebrating where we live and supporting the small businesses that make this area feel like home.

What’s been really cool is that this platform has introduced me to so many businesses I never would’ve known about otherwise. I’ve met so many incredible people who are pouring their heart into what they do—whether it’s food, retail, services—you name it. It’s made me even more proud to be from the South Bay. I’m just trying to use this platform to keep locals connected and highlight the best of what’s here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I mean, for the most part, I’m just really grateful for this platform and what it’s been able to do. But of course, like anything, there have been challenges. During the pandemic, it was definitely tough—emotionally, financially, for everyone. But in a weird way, it also brought our community closer together. People were really looking out for each other, supporting local in any way they could, and I think The South Bay Club became a space where people could stay connected and informed, even when everything felt uncertain.

I don’t know what the future will bring—there are always going to be natural disasters or unexpected struggles in the community—but I’m thankful to have a platform that can help share important information, rally support, and remind people that we’re all in this together.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I recently launched a marketing company focused on highlighting local businesses here in the South Bay. A lot of people know me through my social media platforms, where I give tours of the best places to eat, shop, and explore—but it’s grown into something more. I also have a website where people can easily search for local spots to eat, shop, or stay, and a newsletter that keeps everyone in the loop on what’s happening around town.

At the heart of it, I think what I really specialize in is storytelling—spotlighting the businesses and people that make this community feel like home. I’m most proud of the community that’s grown around this. What started as a personal passion project has turned into a space that really uplifts small businesses and brings locals together.

What sets me apart is honestly just the love I have for this place. I was born and raised here, and there’s something really special about helping others discover what makes the South Bay so unique. There are amazing people running these businesses, and it’s an honor to help share their stories.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is that it truly has everything—you pretty much never have to leave, and honestly, I usually don’t. It’s called the bubble for a reason! We’ve got the beach, great food, amazing local shops, and just this really supportive community vibe. It’s a special place, and once you’re here, it’s hard to imagine living anywhere else.

As for what I like least… I don’t know, that’s a tough one. Maybe just that it’s growing so quickly, and sometimes I worry that we might lose some of that small-town charm which is another reason its so important to support our small businesses. But overall, I really do love it here—it’s home.
