Today we’d like to introduce you to Shante Renee Roline
Hi Shante Renee , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From a young age, I felt a strong pull toward fashion. Growing up in Edmonton, I would experiment by taking apart my clothes and reassembling them with my unique flair. Eventually, I moved to Toronto, where I took courses in garment construction and pattern design, fully immersing myself in the world of fashion. When people started to notice my designs, I realized I had the potential to turn my passion into a business and started Vanity Couture.
Building Vanity Couture has been an incredible journey, with its fair share of challenges and triumphs. Transitioning from swimwear to luxury essentials and glamorous dresses, I created a brand that embodies confidence, elegance, and femininity. Along the way, I’ve embraced the highs, like debuting at Miami Swim Week, and the lows, learning from costly mistakes that come with navigating the industry independently.
Collaborating with icons like Angela Simmons has been a highlight. Her passion for authenticity and embracing natural beauty resonates deeply with Vanity Couture’s ethos. My goal has always been to celebrate women who are unapologetically themselves, blending high-quality, glamorous pieces with timeless allure. We have had the pleasure of working with some top models like Virginia Sanhouse who is just as beautiful inside as she is out. Today, my brand aims to reach a global audience, enhancing our reach into Europe and the Middle East. We have also recently a manufacturing and wholesale company based in Casablanca, Morocco, through which we are helping other brands bring they dreams to life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles have come in a variety of fashions. We have experienced everything from lost samples, ordering bulk and receiving entirely different pieces to what was paid for and having to discard 10’s of thousands of unsalvageable stock. We have experienced 6 figure theft through partnerships and contracts unhonoured. The fashion industry is really a beast of its own in a sense but I don’t want to shine light on all the negativity because it has also been one of the most fun, liberating and exciting ventures of my life and I am still pursuing my career I it for a reason.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I absolutely love what I do, everything from ideation, where I actually get a lot of my designs from music, I visualize what I would wear when listening to a song. Where I would be, what would be taking place and how I would be dressed. The imagination is such a powerful tool. I believe I am known for sexy, edgy and elegant styles. I like to walk fine line but never cross it and I think I do a fantastic job of it. I may attention to detail and I create garments that exude femininity and are alluring but also function as well. I always consider how it feels to wear everything and aim to make it like a second skin.
I love creating designs from scratch, sketching, draping, drafting patterns, sewing and wearing out my little masterpieces. An interesting fact is I have actually handmade the designs I have shown at both of our Miami Swim Week shows. I think that is actually one thing that sets me apart greatly, I not only design I actually create. I think understanding the fundamentals of how things really work by making them allows you to be more creative.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would have to say persistence is key. I have to be honest in admitting that I have been a person where when things go wrong or I feel blocked I can face levels of paralysis when it comes to spirit and confidence. It has been a personal journey of its own to really overcome those feelings when they happen and to keep pursuing my goals. I admire all entrepreneurs in every industry as I’m sure they can relate to this and know how hard it is from a soul level to pick yourself back up over and over again.
