Rising Stars: Meet Riki Barker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riki Barker.

Hi Riki, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From a very young age, I have always loved to sing. I always said that at some point, I would like to do it professionally, but the truth is that I never did anything to make it happen. For ten years, I have been dedicated to digital marketing and for things of the destiny, I have had the opportunity to meet musicians, singers, artists, etc…

A couple of months ago, I ended my relationship and it affected me a lot, in one of those sad days, I started writing. When I realized it, it already had the structure of a song. It was then that I knew it was time to make my dream of singing come true. I called my singer friend, Juan Solo, I told him about the idea I had and between the two of us we put out the song. he produced me and now I have my first single.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think that because of the contacts and friends I have, it has been a bit easy for me to start. What I did realize is that if you want to dedicate yourself to music, you have to invest a lot of money and be aware that it is not an easy career at all. When you don’t have a label to back you up, the road is much longer and more difficult.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In addition to music, I am a graphic designer and I have been in advertising for more than ten years. At age 24, I started my own advertising agency, called Intellmedia. Within our portfolio, we have worked with national brands and carried out several viral campaigns. My job is to be constantly changing and always think creatively.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Hardly anyone knows that for several years, I did musical theater and ice skating. I think this is an exclusive here with you, haha.
