Rising Stars: Meet Reggie Marcano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie Marcano.

Hi Reggie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well to start, I was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. For those who don’t know Jersey City is right across the Hudson River from New York City. I am a first gen, my mother was born in Guyana and my father was born in Trinidad. I’m a proud West Indian.

I can remember as far back as probably 7 or 8 years old that the city I lived in was growing exponentially; mainly because of how closely it was situated to New York City. We literally had a view of the twin towers (World Trade Center) from my childhood home.

As a kid I always wondered, are we ever going to run out of room in Jersey City?

That’s when I started learning about real estate. I knew from then that when I grew up, I wanted to have a career in Real Estate. Whether owning rental property, developing or flipping, I was confident that it was for me. I just gravitated toward it.

As soon as I was old enough, I made every possible attempt to get into the business. I’ve had my fair amount of setbacks, and I’m sure I’ll have more, but as they say, “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”.

In 2015 I relocated myself and my family to California and immediately settled in Santa Clarita. I currently own rental property and I am a Realtor serving clients in Southern California.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. But that’s how life is, especially for those trying to obtain are their own definition of success. I’m a firm believer that if you want to obtain something you’ve never had, you’ve got to be willing to do things you’ve never done.

Many of the struggles have been of my own doing, trying to rush the process or simply not trusting the process. In many ways, every time something didn’t work out in my favor, it was because I tried to take a short cut. I now know that there are no such things as “short cuts”.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As for me being a rental property owner, I really take time to listen and address my tenants needs directly and promptly. In my earlier years as a renter, I had my fair share of issues with my landlords and I know how stressful that can be. I think those qualities set me apart from other rental property owners.

As a Realtor, I really have a passion for educating prospective buyers on everything I know about the buying process. The knowledge I pass on gives new buyers confidence and comfortability from start to finish. I love to see people reaching their goals. Progress is a beautiful thing. I really love what I do!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am the true definition of a tinkerer, I love working with my hands! I work on everything, especially cars (I am a true car enthusiast). I also worked as a barber all through high school and college.
