Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Randhawa.

Nikki Randhawa

Hi Nikki, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was five years old, Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End came out in theaters. I remember being obsessed with the franchise. At the time, I was not allowed to watch the movies but I remember watching the trailers and reading the adaptation books for children and I loved the character of Jack Sparrow. When I got older, I learned it was an actor who portrayed the character, which led me to explore Johnny Depp’s other characters such as Willy Wonka and Mad Hatter. I thought it was so intriguing how one person could be an entirely different person in another story. I fell in love with the ability to transform into different characters and learned to appreciate the imagination and talent that goes into it. I joined an acting/modeling school and did a showcase when I was around 10 years old. At 11, I got an agent and went to auditions in Los Angeles. However, because I was not living in the area at the time, I could not continue acting. Fast forward to sophomore year of high school, I moved to Singapore and participated in a short film there. At first, I was nervous because I haden’t acted in a while. I knew I loved it, but I wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to pursue until I did a fashion show in Singapore.

During the fashion show, I was reminded of the classes I took when I was a child and this rekindled my love for both modeling and acting. Senior year of high school, I participated in short films with my friends and in freshman year of college, I got an agent and was able to participate in bigger projects. Since then, I have better understood the industry and know that this is something I want to continue to pursue. For me, acting provides a profound avenue to explore the diverse facets of humanity. The ability to embody different characters not only allows me to learn about different people and their lives but it also enables me to delve into my own depths of self-discovery. Acting has become a medium through which I can authentically express myself and connect with audiences on a deep emotional level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it has not been a smooth road. Before college, I couldn’t pursue acting professionally because I did not live in LA, so I could have gotten more experience if I was in the area. In addition, when an audition comes last minute at times, it is challenging to balance school work and the audition. Especially with memorizing lines and trying to understand a character in a short amount of time. That has been a bit challenging because sometimes I have to do it in between classes or late at night which results in me not doing the best I know I can do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One aspect that truly distinguishes me from others is my ambition and strong work ethic. However, in the acting world, what truly sets me apart is my ability to imitate the actions and behaviors of those around me. This ability allows me to effectively portray characters in a manner that feels remarkably authentic and relatable. When I am presented with a script and tasked with embodying a specific character, my approach involves finding a person in real life who naturally embodies the traits and qualities of that character. Through careful observation, I study their unique mannerisms, speech patterns, and even physical attributes. By immersing myself in this observational process, I am able to mirror their behavior and seamlessly integrate it into my own performances. I am also able to create relatable characters that reflect everyday life experiences and am able to bring a sense of realism and depth to my portrayals.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I would describe myself as very imaginative. I would write books, be in school plays and make short films for fun. I was very shy, so I would say that I expressed myself through creative endeavors. I was always goal driven and focused on my future. I was a BIG Disney Channel fan. I remember watching Disney Channel every day after school which really got me interested in the entertainment industry. I had a variety of different interests. I remember I wanted to be an artist like someone who drew or painted; but then I realized I was not good at drawing which I was disappointed about at the time… and then I wanted to be an archeologist (I guess I watched Indiana Jones or something) and then I wanted to be a doctor, but then I almost failed my anatomy class in high school and didn’t like learning about the subject. So I had a variety of interests but one thing was constant all my childhood and teenage years- and that was my love for acting.
