Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Cruz Garcia
Hi Mariana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story started when I realized how much digital media had influenced my life.
I was born and raised in Colombia, and at eleven, I created my first stop-motion video about an innocent life lesson. After I finished it, the video completely deleted itself from the app I was using. With tears in my eyes, I decided to recreate it all over again. I had a deep desire to share it with others and communicate its message. That moment marked the beginning of my passion for creative work and demonstrated my resilience in the craft.
As I grew up, this craft became both a form of expression and a means of understanding the world around me. Through movies and videos, I learned so much about life and the world that I felt compelled to share the beauty I saw with others, hoping to help them in the same way it helped me.
From that point on, I began exploring and creating more art. My passion for it was so strong that I couldn’t see myself pursuing anything other than visual arts.
I’ve been fortunate enough to live in different countries and work on various projects, including music videos, commercials, and animations. Along the way, I’ve built a network and friendships in the industry that feels like family to me. I continue to do the work I love, hoping to reach as many people as possible with healing messages.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are ups and downs in life, but despite the struggles, I consider myself very fortunate to have so much love and support from the people closest to me. Even in difficult moments, there is always a light; everything passes eventually, and you come out of it stronger. I try to apply this mindset to as many situations as I can in my life.
Professionally, it’s challenging as an artist to put yourself out there, to have your work valued, and to get paid fairly for it. But with every experience, I’ve learned more and continue to learn how to make a living from my passion. It’s not always easy, but it fulfills my purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a creative director and multimedia artist. My focus is on creating concepts and telling stories through various digital mediums, including video production, photography, animation, and graphic design.
My intention with my art is to reach people’s hearts, brighten their days, teach, and provoke deep thought. The most exciting part of my work is connecting with others and evoking genuine human emotions that resonate deeply and help in some way. This world we live in is already very tough, so I aim to create comfort and a safe space through my work.
My objective is to be part of the change, contributing to new generations that inspire the world to be a better place through digital mediums. I am particularly drawn to creating content that educates and inspires. Additionally, I am passionate about promoting sustainability within the creative industry, using my platform to highlight social issues, and fostering mental and spiritual awareness.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I believe that one of the most important resources is anything that helps with self-growth. If you nurture your inner self, you will nurture your creativity, and through it, impact the world with your art. As artists, our work is an expression of ourselves.
In addition to working from the inside out, I find it incredibly beneficial to visit art galleries, museums, and especially to travel. Even a small walk of exploration, just seeing places that are unfamiliar to you, expands your understanding of the world, bringing new perspectives and creativity.
Other resources I use for inspiration include viewing the work of other creatives on Instagram, Pinterest, Dribbble, YouTube, as well as exploring visual books and podcasts.
