Rising Stars: Meet Kaori Suzuki

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaori Suzuki.

Hi Kaori, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I studied photography at the Japan College of Art and started my photography career in Tokyo and was a professional photographer in Japan for ten years before moving to Los Angeles in 2001.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My career started as a staff photographer for a difficult employer in Japan, but I was able to transition to my freelance photographer successfully. Moving to Los Angeles was a challenge in finding new clients, but I was able to get new clients with my husband Gene, also a freelance creative who shoots videography.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in portrait, product and food photography. I shot many Hollywood celebrity studio portrait for movie studio such as Warner Bros Pictures and Sony Pictures. And I shot many advertising photos for clients such as Hilton Hotel, Sephora and Panasonic.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
A key approach for me is do your best for every job, no matter the fee scale, and your client will appreciate your work and introduce you to other clients. Developing this trust with all clients is important for building a solid network.
