Rising Stars: Meet Julian Vidaurrazaga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Vidaurrazaga.

Hi Julian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was five years old, I developed my love for movies, specifically superhero ones. The first superhero movie I saw was Spider-Man. I would let my imagination run wild and start to perform in front of my parents. I would imagine myself as a superhero beating up the villains. From there, I knew I wanted to bring my performance to the audience to entertain them and inspire them.

I would tell my parents that I wanted to be an actor and be in a movie just like Spider-Man. Of course they thought I was too little to know exactly what I wanted. I come from a Mexican/Salvadorian family that is very open-minded and supportive, but they knew that a child changes their mind about what they want easily. Therefore, it was not until the age of 11 when I insisted once again about becoming an actor. This time, I reassured them that this was something I loved and really wanted for my career. It was then when they realized that I had not changed my mind about becoming an actor, so they decided to go ahead and fully support my decision. My dad went to work every day to support our family and so my mom would be able to fully take on the role of my manager. It was decided that if I booked anything, he would stay home to take care of my little brother and sister.

My mom and I then jumped into a world full of mystery. We did not have connections in the entertainment industry nor did we know the steps to take in order to make it. It was then that her and I started to search for answers on the internet. Luckily my mom and I knew our way around the internet, so we learned quickly and she got me an agent.

From there, it was on me to do my part to perfect my craft, so I decided to take drama and theater classes at my middle school. I perform with my theater class at the Drama Teachers Association of Southern CA competition and we won 2nd place. I also did a “Romeo & Juliet” play with the ICSE in Hollywood. On my spare time, I would always watch movies, analyzed the acting and practice it on my own in front of a mirror. I also really liked to analyze people around me and imagine scenarios where I would bring characters to life. This really helped me a lot in developing my acting skills.

My mom started to submit me for roles as well as my agent. I started to receive a lot of auditions and callbacks. My mom drove me to every single one of them. I then experienced a lot of rejections in the industry, but my parents were always my encouragement to not give up. It took a lot of no’s but eventually, my career started to thrive and I was being casted in a lot of Films/Tv shows like Brat Tv Mani, Dhar Mann, Unreasonable Doubt, Murder In The Heartland, 7th & Union, A Journal For Jordan, Americas Family and many more.

Releasing soon, I have a short film called “My Little Caregiver” where I play the role of Jack and an animated cartoon series called “Mystery Box” where I play the role of Matteo Ramos. I also have an audio fiction series releasing soon, where I play lead role. I can’t say much about the audio-fiction series, but I can say it is going to be a good one. My future projects next month are a short film where I play supporting role and a feature film where I play lead role. The feature film will take me to New Mexico and I can’t wait to share more about it in the future.

Some advice I would give to any kid out there trying to become an actor is “Make sure it is something you really want to do and love.” “Have a strong mind as there will be a lot of rejections in this industry, and last make sure to get your parents or family member’s full support because without them you can not do much”.

I would like to thank my parents for supporting my dream and encouraging me to keep going no matter what.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. When I began my career as an actor, I got a lot of rejection due to lack of experience. It is hard for a director to believe in you without you having been on a film/tv show. Luckily after a year or so someone finally open the doors to me and I was able to show my capability as an actor.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Latino actor who began an acting career at age 11. I am mostly known for playing the role of Kenny on Brat Tv’s popular show Mani and playing many roles in the popular tv show Dhar Mann, but specially the role of Liam in their episode “Boy Scouts Prank War Girl Scouts”.

My parents came from their country as illegal immigrants to the USA to provide a better future for me and my siblings. I am extremely proud to be able to repay them by accomplishing my dreams and being successful in my career. What sets me apart from others is the will and perseverance to reach my dreams, as well as being able to stay grounded no matter how far I get.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Honestly, my only mentors have being my parents. My mom and I learn to network the entertainment industry by trial and error. We used the help of YouTube and Google a lot, as well as asked questions to other parents who had being in the industry longer. We network mostly by following directors/producer/writers/casting directors on Instagram and creating content for them to see my acting abilities. We also try to get contact information for directors/Producers while on set.
