Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmyn Marie M.
Hi Jasmyn Marie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It is a bittersweet story actually – I started preserving flowers 4 1/2 years ago after my mother became ill. You know when someone is sick in the hospital usually friends, coworkers, and family send over bouquets of flowers? I felt really bad tossing flowers every Sunday before the trash got picked up on Monday’s. I sort of thought to myself – How can I save these? So, I started pressing flowers in a traditional wooden press and then ventured into silica as a desiccant. I dabbled in small resin pieces, such as coasters at first. However, one day a bride reached out and asked if I could preserve her wedding bouquet and that’s how my artwork took off. Since then, I’ve gained more traction on social media, I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries for commissions and bouquet preservations. I am now booked entirely for 2024 and all through 2025. I even have a waitlist… Feeling a ton of gratitude at the moment.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily for me, it has been pretty smooth. Any struggles along the way have been lessons. I take from my mistakes and apply them to my work. So, in a sense, I wouldn’t say “I struggled,” I genuinely believe it is all part of my journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Of course. I preserve dried flowers in epoxy resin. Mainly I preserve wedding bouquets after the event. So, brides will ship their bouquets over to me and I will dry them for a good amount of time. Once they are fully dry, I preserve them in resin. My process is long, about 6-9 months turnaround time, sometimes even longer. I love capturing the details of everyday nature that most people do not see. I enjoy being able to provide a lasting representation that goes beyond fresh flowers.
I would say I am most proud of the fact that I have come so far to be known at an international level. I have brides and clients from all over the world buying my artwork and/or shipping me their wedding bouquet from other countries. It’s actually pretty mind blowing knowing that others love what I do. I am very passionate about this.
I think my style and technique is what sets me apart from other resin artists. I mean, I know a few resin artists who are phenomenal at what they do, we all are. However, I try to find ways to set myself apart from them, but at the same time stay true to who I am as an artist.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I am really into true crime podcasts. I love all things macabre and dark. It’s weird, I’m all into flowers and all things frilly and pink, but once you get to know me, you’ll see that I’m a huge fan of true crime and all things paranormal. Alien Theorists Theorizing and Cosmic Channels are podcasts that I’ve been listening to for a while now.
