Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Rodriguez.
Hi Gina , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story really began in 2009, during the height of the Tiger Woods scandal. At the time, I personally knew some of the women who were suddenly thrust into an international media storm. The world was watching, the press was relentless, and I realized quickly that there was no one guiding or protecting these women through the chaos. That’s when I stepped in, helping them manage media inquiries, navigate interviews, and tell their stories on their own terms.
What started as crisis management during that period became the foundation for my first company, Gitoni Inc. I discovered that I had a talent for media strategy, storytelling, and brand protection and a passion for helping people control their own narrative. From there, Gitoni grew into a full-service entertainment, branding, and production company representing talent, creating television projects, and building brands that reach real audiences with authenticity.
Over time, as media and technology evolved, I saw an opportunity to take what I learned in the trenches and scale it, that’s how Buzzlinq was born. Buzzlinq is a PR and marketing platform that gives individuals and businesses the tools to manage their brand, connect with media, post across social platforms, respond to reviews, and collaborate with influencers, all in one place.
My journey has always been about transformation, turning controversy into clarity, chaos into opportunity, and lessons learned in the media spotlight into innovative solutions that help others build their own buzz the right way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road — it’s been pure chaos, honestly — but I wouldn’t change a thing. From the very beginning, I inserted myself into some of the biggest media storms of our time, and that’s where I learned the most. I worked with many of the women involved in the Tiger Woods scandal, with those connected to Charlie Sheen’s public meltdown, the Jesse James scandal, Octomom, Tan Mom, Mama June, Teen Mom’s Farrah Abraham, Sydney Leathers during the Anthony Weiner scandal, and even Stormy Daniels during the Trump hush-money ordeal. I have worked with the Lohan’s, Lamar Odom, Kim Zolciak, Nathan Apodaca aka Doggface and so many more. The list truly goes on.
Each situation taught me something different — how the media moves, how fast public perception can shift, and how vital it is for people to have someone protecting their story and reputation in real time. The challenge has always been finding balance, keeping integrity and empathy front and center while managing extreme public attention.
Looking back, every chaotic headline, every 24-hour news cycle, and every PR crisis was a lesson in strategy, trust, and timing. I learned that even in the most unpredictable circumstances, there’s always a way to take control of the narrative and that’s really what built the foundation for my entire career.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do today is really about helping people manage visibility, reputation, and opportunity in a world where everything is public. Through Gitoni Inc., I work with talent, influencers, and businesses to build their image, navigate media attention, and create lasting brands. My focus has always been on storytelling — helping people take control of their narrative and turn attention into opportunity.
Beyond entertainment, I’ve also expanded into real estate and property development, which has become a true family business. My daughter Brandilyn Sambrano, my son in-law Joshua Sambrano and my business partner Anthony Kotzev and I flip homes together and recently launched a short-term rental company called RetreatLinq, where we manage and design vacation homes in places like Big Bear, Lake Havasu, and Hawaii.
We love taking old homes and giving them new life — making our Los Angeles County neighborhoods beautiful again. I was born and raised here, went to Calabasas High School, and graduated from Stoneridge College Preparatory, so improving our local communities means a lot to me personally.
I’m also developing my newest project, Buzzlinq, which will be the next evolution of how people manage and grow their brands online. It’s something I’m deeply passionate about, and I’ll be sharing more soon.
At the end of the day, everything I do — whether it’s in media, branding, or real estate — comes down to building, protecting, and transforming value. I love turning chaos into opportunity and creating things that make a lasting impact — for people, for brands, and for the communities I grew up in.
What makes me happiest is seeing the things I’ve built — and the people I love — grow and thrive. I’ve been through a lot of chaos and reinvention in my career, but at this stage in my life, happiness comes from stability, creativity, and watching my family succeed doing what they love.
I get so much joy out of creating — whether it’s producing a show, helping someone rebrand their public image, or remodeling an old home and seeing it come back to life. There’s something deeply rewarding about transforming something broken, overlooked, or misunderstood — and turning it into something beautiful and valuable again.
What sets me apart is that I’ve never been afraid to walk straight into the chaos. Most people run from scandal or controversy — I built my career inside of it. I stepped into some of the most high-profile media storms of our time and turned them into opportunities for the people at the center of them. That experience taught me how the media really works, how public opinion is shaped, and how to control a narrative when everything feels out of control.
I think what also makes me different is my ability to see potential where others see problems. Whether it’s a client going through a public crisis, an old house that everyone else overlooks, or a brand that’s struggling to find its voice — I see what can be, and I build from there. And beyond all that, everything I do is rooted in authenticity and loyalty. My clients become like family. My businesses are run with my actual family. And my mission has always been bigger than just business — it’s about protecting people, building legacies, and making a real impact, whether that’s in media, branding, or the neighborhoods I grew up in.
I don’t just manage stories — I transform them. And I think that ability to take something messy and make it meaningful is what truly sets me apart.
Working with my family makes it even better. My daughter Brandilyn, my son in-law Joshua and my business partner Anthony all inspire me every day. We work hard, laugh a lot, and take pride in what we do — whether it’s flipping homes, running talent agencies, or launching new ventures together.
At the end of the day, happiness for me is freedom — the freedom to create, to evolve, to help others tell their story, and to build a legacy that lasts beyond headlines or trends.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is: don’t wait for the perfect moment — just start. I built my career by diving into chaos and figuring it out as I went. If I had waited until I felt “ready,” none of this would exist. You learn the most by doing, even if you’re scared, even if you fail — because every challenge teaches you something that makes you stronger.
Also, understand that your reputation and relationships are everything. This industry — whether it’s media, entertainment, or real estate — is built on trust. Be honest, be reliable, and always follow through. People remember how you made them feel, especially in high-pressure situations.
Something I wish I knew earlier is that you don’t have to do everything alone. I used to try to carry it all myself, but the truth is, building a great team and surrounding yourself with people who believe in your vision is how you grow faster and stronger.
And finally, don’t be afraid of reinvention. Life and business will throw you curveballs — embrace them. Every twist in my story turned into an opportunity I never saw coming. If you stay adaptable, keep learning, and never give up, you can turn even the most chaotic situations into something powerful.
