Today we’d like to introduce you to Elva Wei.
Hi Elva, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From an early age, I found joy in doodling on the pages of my textbooks. As I grew older and decided to become a concept designer, I couldn’t help but marvel at the wondrous journey that led me here. As a quiet girl, I have always been drawn to the beauty around me and captured those fleeting moments with my brush and canvas.
Since my junior high days, I’ve carried a sketchbook wherever I go, using it to document delightful cuisines, picturesque landscapes, and fascinating encounters with interesting individuals. It was during this time that I first realized the connection between art and filming, discovering a profession that could create worlds through illustrations and imagination. The prospect excited and enchanted me, and I knew I had found my calling as a concept designer.
While drawing and sketching is now my profession, it will forever remain my passion. I aspire to publish my own art collection in the future, allowing more people to glimpse the world as I see it through my artistic endeavors.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Drawing requires both talent and practice. Pursuing one’s interest in drawing is enjoyable, but sometimes, improvement demands time and effort. Often, my ideas seem wonderful in my mind, but the actual artwork may not meet my expectations. I realized that I needed to refine my skills. During the days of waiting for my artistry to mature, it is essential to have patience and confidence. Giving myself ample time, I believe success is drawing closer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I find joy in admiring everything around me – the bustling streets, distant mountains outside the window, the setting sun casting its final glow, and even arguing pedestrians. Each blade of grass and every tree has its own story and charm, and I love capturing them all with my digital brush.
Bright and clean colors attract me, and I strive to maintain a simple yet dynamic control over the details in my artwork. My loose and swift painting style allows viewers to feel the passion and spontaneity that I experience while painting as I record life’s moments.
I take pride in the sense of speed conveyed through my art. It’s like capturing the essence of life, and whenever I share my artwork, I feel like I’m sharing a part of my life, inviting every viewer to experience the emotions I felt in that particular moment of the day.
How do you define success?
Success is intangible and difficult to define with specific events or words. It is also subjective and is a feeling rather than a tangible item that exists in reality. Therefore, success varies widely from person to person. For me, success is a sense of happiness and accomplishment. It’s the feeling when I accomplish what I know I’m capable of and become who I aspire to be. I consider myself successful when I am content and happy with my life.
The question of what success really means may elicit different answers from different people. However, the concept of “success” does not need to refer to the opinions and comparisons of others. In the minds of a thousand people, there are a thousand interpretations of what “success” means. It is something personal and unique, completely defined by ourselves.
