Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney White.
Hi Delaney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been singing since I can remember. Always wanted to be like Lady Gaga or P!NK when I grew up. And it wasn’t until middle school when I realized there was something else in the cards for me. My mom signed me up for community theatre outside of school starting in sixth grade as well as private voice lessons. I immediately fell in love with it. Getting a chance to act on stage in front of people while singing, it was like everything finally clicked into place. I continued doing Theatre throughout high school and even ended up becoming a private voice teacher myself at a local music shop. I am currently studying musical theatre in college and will be graduating with my BFA in 2024.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s hard to say that anything has ever been a smooth road. I work extremely hard to get where I want to be, and when I want something bad enough in my career, no isn’t an option. I’ve been told to my face that this is not the path for me from teachers that I trusted and confided in. I’ve been tested by my peers to even continue in school. But I made it too far to let other people’s opinions deter me from the path I have always meant to be on. There has never been a second option, and me and my family had no idea what we were getting into. We knew it was important though. My sister helped me take my very first headshots when we couldn’t afford it. My mom asked friends and neighbors for their help for the college process and still sends things my way for auditions when she sees them. And my dad helps me budget my way through college to make sure I stay on my feet. I have a great support team, and although at times it’s tricky, we always manage to push through. I’m a college student studying a bfa in musical theatre that workload isn’t light. It’s 8:30 mornings to 11PM nights with little breaks and somehow I still manage to keep three jobs on top of it all. I work hard and make sure that with everything I do, I’m proud to put my name on it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actress! I’ve mainly only done live theatre but have also worked on a handful of film work. I am definitely a singer through and through and have also sung in bands before. I will say though, what I am most proud of has either got to be, getting into school for what I love, cause that process is not an easy one, originating the role of Holly Manson in Loserville in the United States, or my most recent work on a feature film, that I’m not allowed to say too much on at the moment. What sets me apart from others though has got to be my personality. I’m a whole lotta personality in this small body. I’m 5’2″ for reference. But no matter what, I keep a bubbly personality on set, get my work done and still have a blast while doing it all. That’s really the feedback I get after almost every job I have. they say “regardless of your talent, cause you have it but so does how many other people. Regardless of your work, you make coming into work every day a joy. you do your job and do it well and still make it a fun environment to be in.” I’m asked back almost every time and if something is going on that I can’t necessarily execute to the end, I will be there as assistant director, assistant music director or helping out the crew behind the scenes.
