Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudio Aluzzi.
Hi Claudio, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I consider myself to be a storyteller. I started drawing, writing and performing as a kid. Looking back, I think that what was most exciting about these back then was to develop the ability of bringing something that only existed in my head to the physical world. I believe art is an extension of self. It is a reflection of what we have learned, are learning or even will learn. So it is very interesting for me to re-visit my life path through the stories I’ve told through art since I was a kid.
I was born in Mexico City in 1998. My childhood was full of creativity, I would spend my free time drawing, creating stop-motion videos or learning about animation. On my early teenage years, I wrote and directed my first film, “Who I Am” a movie about a teenage girl (Mariola de la Mora) whose memory is erased on an accident, having to re-create her personality from the ground up. The idea of being able to re-create whoever you want to be fascinated me, and it became a recurring theme in my artwork. The film premiered on a local theater in Mexico in 2013. We hosted around 400 people. I’ll never forget that feeling. That night gave me a little taste of the film industry and left me wanting to discover it further. It felt like it was a case of the principal of favorability.
I started selling my art In 2015 when I had my first solo art show. Since then, my style has been in constant evolution. Today I consider my purpose to be having the ability to contribute to the awakening of the human family through my art. By “awakening” I refer to the realization that we have a choice to be whoever we want to be. Every habit and belief have to be questioned in order to be able to choose to keep them or throw them away and re-learn something that serves the best version of ourselves better. In a nutshell, this is what I try to convey through my artwork.
After doing this so-called re-creation of myself once more, I noticed a pattern of behavior in myself that apparently had been happening since I was a kid. I never allowed myself to take the mask of perfection off, which led to restrict myself from certain things that I really wanted to try. So I made my goal to take off the mask, focusing on ‘allowing’ myself to experience all sorts of feelings, to experience failure, vulnerability and being uncomfortable. Once I had set this in motion, the idea of moving to Los Angeles came into fruition faster that I could have ever imagined.
Allowing myself to experience all these things led me to the acting world, and it has been the scariest yet most blissful journey so far. I found a place to re-discover myself, once more, and who knows what the next chapter of this story will tell. I couldn’t be more excited, however I couldn’t be more present either.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My greatest obstacle is my mind. I’ve had various challenges throughout my career yet the greatest has been myself. During this journey I have sabotaged myself multiple times, most of them by believing I’m not good or not worth enough. I suffer from impostor syndrome, which Merriam-Webster defines as; ‘a psychological condition that is characterized by persistent doubt concerning one’s abilities or accomplishments accompanied by the fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of one’s ongoing success. However, this journey of self-discovery and redefinition has led me to not only spot these flaws but work against them. I have worked on my self-confidence by keeping every promise that I make to myself. I’ve healed childhood trauma. I have unlearned toxic patterns and behaviors. And I’ve actively created new habits that define my personality today. I still have a long way to go, and it will be a process that may take a lifetime, but the constant redefinition of self is definitely something to look forward to. Like a snake shedding its skin. So today, this present version of me can definitely say that my greatest asset of all, is my mind.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Gratitude is a key element of my artwork. In 2013, I read Rhonda Byrne’s work for the first time. She published a very popular book called ‘The Secret’, that essentially talks about the law of attraction. This book opened a door for me to a new world, since then I’ve been digging deeper and deeper into the subject, many things have worked for me and some others have not. However, the one thing that it undeniable is; gratitude will improve anybody’s life.
Appreciating what surrounds us, big or small, leads to feeling good about the place we’re in. In 2018 I made my first painting with the word ‘grateful’ In it, since then I’ve incorporated it in almost every single piece of art I’ve created. Today, ‘Grateful’ is part of my brand and of my life philosophy, and one of the most characteristic elements of my work.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is definitely dressing up as my favorite superheroes. There are two qualities that children have that I believe should be cherished and kept. The first one is belief. When I was a kid and dressed up as Superman, I was 100% convinced, that I was Superman. Belief is such a powerful thing, if we could believe with the same amount of confidence of a kid, that we are capable, worthy and brave enough to fulfill our dreams, we would. Belief and self-confidence go hand in hand. The second quality is curiosity. As we grow up we stop questioning the world around us, whether we understand it or not. Questioning is such an important quality in order to have a choice as to what we truly want to believe, do and subsequently be.
