Rising Stars: Meet Charli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charli.

Hi Charli, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was in France, everybody called me Charly Gee. I was a singer-songwriter and a super creative, powerful woman who was hiding myself. I would collaborate with different people (96 Records, The Ware, Jule Aston as Anoï, Feard, etc.) but stay hidden, never allowing myself to be front and center on any projects.

After fighting with myself to understand who I was, I realized that my dreams were somewhere else- in LA. For me, this is a new beginning, a new adventure, a new chapter, and a new name. Music helped me to be the woman I am now. Doing music and writing what I feel and what I want to be has helped me to overcome my difficulties. I want to inspire and help others to feel as powerful and happy as I am now. Never forget that you deserve to be happy! So here I am: My name is Charli, I’m an Indie-Pop artist based in Los Angeles. As an artist, I love to play with ideas from the 60s and the 80s to make my own sound. Music helps me express myself on many levels. It’s a puzzle between my emotions, the music, and words. If you’re good and you know what you want to express, it’s magical! I was raised with the music of Anastacia, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, Nina Simone, and Destiny’s Child. I admire these artists a lot and I am forever inspired by them.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I can’t say that it has been a smooth road for me! Lol! Even though the road hasn’t always been easy, I’ve loved every adventure, collaboration, disappointment, and every breakdown because it has taken me to where I am now. You always idealize your career at the start and then you encounter obstacles and opportunities that you would have never thought of. If you had asked me five years ago where I would want to be in 5 years, I would have never thought of being in LA as a solo artist!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer-songwriter and producer. I love to write topline, melodies, and songs. This is what I’m good at. I’ve always had ideas for songs and I’m known to create good work and pretty quickly. My friends and every person who knows me will say that I’m really a workaholic! I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing, but I can’t stop working, because if I stop I feel… actually I don’t know how it feels because I never stop! I’m proud of having such opportunities in my life – I don’t have a specific moment, I’m just grateful to do what I love every day. Am I different? I guess that everybody is unique for something. I guess my individuality is in how I see the world and relate to people – with nostalgia and power! The difference is that I don’t really want to be different, even though I know I am.

What matters most to you?
This is a tough question. I would have to say my happiness. And my happiness depends on the fact that my parents, friends, fans, and those I love are happy! I think it’s always important to take care of yourself physically (and with what happened this year, it has to be a priority) but mental health is really important to me because it can also kill people. I can’t live if I live in a bad, sad world.
