Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruna Mejias.
Hi Bruna , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Brazil, I’ve always known what I came here (to the world) to do, I saw a scene from a soap opera on TV when I was 6 years old and I told my mom in that very same moment that it was what I would be, an actress. When I was 13 years old, english began to have a great importance in my life as I started to learn the language, most of the movies and series I consumed ever since then, were spoken in english. I started to play with that, putting acting and english together, which are the two things I really love, I feel a natural deep interest, and also are the things I’m good at. So after a while I realized I wanted to be acting in english, I had even more fun this way, and I wanted to work with the people that I admired for many years, some since I was a child. After I had that realization It became very clear to me what the next step of my journey would have to be. I moved to LA in 2024.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think all of us have good days and bad days, easy and hard. Growth and progress are not a linnear line, It’s often curves but that doesn’t mean you are not constantly evolving and learning and getting closer to achiving your goals. Sometimes it’s hard to handle the amount of rejection you have to face in this profession, specially when one of the things that you must have and keep in order to do it well, is being vulnerable and opened, so you have to learn to possess oposite qualities, like at the same time that you have to grow a thick skin, be prepared to protect yourself and try again after a rejection or a bad, traumatic experience, you also have to keep yourself open, and vulnerable in order to create a life for your characters, both are vital for this work.
Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe we are all unique, therefore there is no one that can do what I do in the way I do it. I try to keep myself hopeful about people and the world, so that it can translate in some way to my characters, or the project I’m involved with. I would say anything you do, choose it from a place of love, and you’ll be set apart if you do it because you have passion for it, it will give you joy and fulfill you because it comes with your purpose in life. It’s gonna serve you and others. It’s gonna be easier for you to be dedicated, instead of if it’s something you care very little for, if it’s only for material purpose or any other reason you might think of.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’m very lucky, everytime I need something it comes to me sooner rather than later, it always comes. Though, I think luck is also a perspective, You woke up alive and healthy today, that’s luck too, you know? It depends on the way you see things, it can be small, details and more important things too. But luck also comes from being grateful for what you already have, and keep trying to be better for yourself and others.
