Rising Stars: Meet Allex Austin of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allex Austin.

Allex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After playing professional basketball overseas in Africa, I moved to California to experience the state for the first time. While competing in leagues such as The Surgeon, VBL, and the Drew League, my performance on the court led to opportunities to model for a clothing company. That opportunity created a snowball effect, opening doors to brand campaigns with Nike and Jordan, and eventually leading to major commercial and television roles. Through athletics and education, I now focus on pouring knowledge back into communities, helping young people recognize their potential, pursue their goals, and take advantage of the resources available to them. I recently opened a school with my nonprofit for a village in las sandias Honduras. The first school the community has had.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Athletics has never been a smooth ride. Working hard and obstacles naturally appear. I attended Baylor university as a duel sport athlete in basketball and track and field. Coming in as the 2011 and 2012 number one high jumper in the nation both years and back to back state title holder, and top basketball players in area. I experienced what was supposed to be a career ending injury my first year at Baylor and had to overcome that to achieve the goals I had set of being a professional duel sport athlete. I went on to recover and place second at USA Nationals 2017 and began my FIBA international basketball career two years later.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work at the intersection of athletics, education, and community development. My background as a professional athlete opened doors in modeling, commercial work, and television, but the core of what I do today is focused on impact. Through my company and community initiatives, I specialize in mentorship, athletic development, and creating educational opportunities for young people, particularly those from under-resourced communities.

I’m known for using athletics as a bridge to education and personal growth. I host camps, workshops, and campus events that connect students with resources, mentorship, and opportunities they may not otherwise see. What I’m most proud of is being able to take the success from my own career and reinvest it into communities. Recently, I funded and helped open a school campus in Las Sandias, Honduras, providing children with access to education, school supplies, and athletics.

What sets me apart is that my work isn’t just about motivation or visibility. I focus on creating tangible opportunities and long-term infrastructure that continue to benefit communities long after the events or programs end.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Outgoing, the wild child, but also very sweet.
