Monica Renee Wright shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Monica Renee, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently I came across a post on Facebook that I did nine years ago of my first wedding. I remember being so proud that someone actually booked me and they enjoyed the experience that I was able to give them. I got a few more bookings off that one wedding. That moment made a significant milestone in my life and it gave me validation that I’ve come so far in my career since then. I’m currently living the dream that I wished and prayed for nine years ago.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello!! Im Monica Renee Wright, professional celebrity makeup artist. I originally hail from Montgomery,AL and now I’m proud to call the Los Angeles area my home. My southern roots allow me to approach each step with love of beauty and self expression. Through my passion, I strive to empower others to feel confident and beautiful using my artistry and creativity as a tool of empowerment. I specialize in soft glam, I’ve worked in tv and film I have a few projects on Bet plus. I also do red carpets, commercials and bridal. I’m excited to be participating in the Women’s Expo in Los Angeles October 2025. I’ll be showcasing my skills with a full demonstration of my work. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect, share, and inspire. I have a few more feature films coming out as well. Stay tuned for what’s next!!!!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that my heavier build and acne meant that I couldn’t succeed in the beauty industry. It also didn’t help that I seldom saw girls with acne or imperfections in the media. This made it harder to see my own beauty. However, as I grew older, I realized that my acne, which I now embrace as beauty marks, actually sets me apart and empowers me to redefine beauty standards for others.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
YES!!! 2025 has been a really hard year for me. I faced signifiant financial challenges that made me question my path in the beauty industry. There were moments when I considered giving up and returning to a more traditional nine-to-five job. But after reflecting on my passion and my love for the art of makeup, I realized that tough times are a part of the journey. It reaffirmed my commitment to persevere and keep pushing forward because this is truly what I love.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire Tabitha Brown for her consistency and authenticity. Meeting her and following her journey from North Carolina to Los Angeles has been incredibly inspiring. Her books and her story have given me validation that is never too late to pursue your dreams no matter your age. As someone who is 34 years old and I’m still working on my path to success, Tabitha’s journey has taught me that it’s all about staying true to yourself and embracing your own timeline.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I am gone, I want my legacy to be rooted in authenticity and kindness. I hope people will remember me as someone who was always true to herself and never swayed by external pressure. I want to be remembered as someone who led with compassion who cherished friends and family, and remained grounded in her roots. Through my artistry, I inspired to uplift in empower others, making them feel valued and beautiful. Ultimately I hope my legacy is one of love, generosity, and staying true to oneself.
