Today we’d like to introduce you to Winnie Chen.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Winnie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a freelance writer, content creator, and public affairs account executive. Throughout my life, I’ve always been interested in the intersection of genuine human connection and creativity. I’ve been able to carry those interests through the art of writing, and am compelled to help others tell their story by engaging in civic participation and continuing to be a voice for minority communities.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I’ve had my fair share of rough experiences and have dealt with anxiety throughout my life, but inner grit and outward character sets you up for success. My family instilled a strong work ethic in me from an early age.
As of now, we’re stuck in the middle of a global pandemic, and it feels as though everyone is competing to paint a perfect picture of their life – a cutthroat social media competition to showcase productivity streaks and new small business ventures – in what seems like an indefinite and arbitrary amount of time ahead. It is so important to take a step back, limit screen time, and spend time outdoors with your loved ones.
Please tell us about Wordswithwons.
I’m a content creator at heart – I’ve always had a knack for documenting. From taking 20 pictures and editing to the specificity that nobody else would particularly care for, to wordsmithing sentences to create the perfect, punchy narrative. I specialize in implementing creative solutions – through brand exposure, content creation, public relations, digital/social media, and website development.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Not that it’s my favorite, but the first childhood memory that comes to mind is falling off my mom’s bicycle when I was seated (via extra cushion seat) in the back. It was the first time I recall vividly experiencing pain in both physical and emotional aspects, so that experience just hit differently. I think it encapsulates life perfectly though – being your own cheerleader and picking yourself back up when life knocks you down. All while learning to quickly adapt and adjust to being thrown off-path.
