Meet West Hollywood Personal Trainer: Paul Braun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Braun. One of Pennsylvania’s best exports to LA, Paul is a intensely motivated personal trainer and entrepreneur.  Below you’ll find edited excerpts of our interview with Paul.

Paul, please share your story with us.  How did you get to where you are today?

I completed undergraduate studies of Exercise Science and Nutrition in my home state of Pennsylvania. After, I moved to LA. I worked as a personal trainer for a year and a half while attending auditions. In June of 2012, I began Chiropractic College at Palmer West in San Jose. I graduated September of 2015 as a Doctor of Chiropractic. I made my way back to LA this past February, and have picked up where I left off, with more determination and drive to cultivate a personal influence within the world of fitness.

Has it been a smooth road?

I believe that when times are hard, one must ask, if I get to my goal, and it was easy… number one, was the goal difficult enough, stretching me to my maximum potential? As well as number two, if I got to my goal, and it didn’t require hard work and perseverance, would it really mean much to me? Some major milestones for me are getting my butt to California from a small town in Pennsylvania, graduating Chiropractic College, and making it back to LA to pursue my dreams.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future are to change the picture of healthcare in the United States. Our healthcare system is so strained by paying for treatment of disease. Many of the chronic diseases can be prevented by modification of lifestyle risk behaviors. My plan is to start companies that tackle this on a large scale. But first, I need to become the best within my circle. I also want to broaden the scope of people that I am able to reach by using social media platforms with video tutorials, recipes, examples of exercises, and success stories of my clients, or why the top people in entertainment choose me to train them and get them ready for their roles.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story.  What was the hardest time you’ve had?

As for personally trying times, it was difficult to make the commitment to go back to school and pursue a degree in Chiropractic. It required perseverance to get complete the three years of school, and five different national board exams. Before moving back to California this past February, I ended a relationship back in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to come back to pursue my dreams in the place where I know they can come to the greatest fruition. That was the hardest thing that I had encountered in my personal life. I had also moved back to my family, and left again. It took some time to really be okay with that, and be okay that I was in California, and “doing me”. Once I started to make myself and my clients the most important people in my life, that’s when things began to change for the better. When more business and positive, influential people began to enter my life.

The key for me has been to do what I’m good at, and always bet on my strengths. Don’t make a checklist of all the things you suck at when you feel like your bank account doesn’t have enough padding, or when someone doesn’t call you back. When I’m down, I have to remind myself that I am not BROKEN. I have clients, I have tools that I can use to my advantage. I have a base network of people. I am beginning to see the light here, as I am making a lot of connections that I feel are going to lead to something great. I will be close to having more of a voice as a consequence of the people I train. The thing now is, to make sure that I am ready when that day comes.

When I start to have that nervous/anxious feeling, “oh my gosh, what if I really do get what I want? That’s a lot of responsibility!” That’s where I am now. The patience and perseverance are going to pay off soon.
