Meet Vonnie Scott-Schellenger of Scottie Dog Music in Diamond Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vonnie Scott-Schellenger.

Vonnie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a Singer/Songwriter, I had many friends and fans who would be curious about my story and how I got started. As I began to share my story with others, I was also asked from time to time if I ever gave lessons. And so, in 2004, Scottie Dog Music was born!

I began to provide vocal coaching, guitar instruction, and creative consulting for adults as well as children ages 7 and up, and enjoy every minute!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My husband, Cliff, and I initially began Scottie Dog Music in Bloomington, Indiana.

Upon relocating back to Southern California, we reopened the business in 2013. At this time, I was continuing to perform as an independent singer/songwriter, as well as homeschooling our two sons, Rex and Ross.

With our family remaining my top priority, then and today, there is still the constant challenge to balance career and family. That is why I am so thankful that our business is truly a family affair! Our sons have picked up the music bug and Rex has worked as sound and recording engineer, along with his dad.

Scottie Dog Music – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Scottie Dog Music provides Vocal Coaching, Guitar Instruction, and Creative Consulting. We also provide Sound and Recording Engineering. I drive to the student or the student may come to my location in Chino Hills. I also provide lessons via Skype.

Being a part of a family of Christian faith, I am so blessed to have the opportunities that have come my way, both in performing and in teaching. I am grateful that I am able to provide our clients with one-on-one training in the area(s) that each person wishes to pursue. I value and invest in each individual, whether he/she is preparing for an audition or upcoming performance, is just beginning to discover his/her gift, or is an adult who has “learn how to play guitar” on his/her bucket list! My utmost desire is that each of my students reaches his/her potential and to provide the support, training, and encouragement that they each need.

I believe that I am perhaps set apart from other instructors in that I take my formal training and seek to bring out and develop the student’s own personal passion and musical style/genre using fundamental techniques.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The most rewarding moments that I have in giving back to my students what I have learned is to see them grow in confidence of using their gift…. which is huge!

Once they begin to truly believe in themselves and what they can accomplish, they begin to get excited about what lies ahead for them! And that is truly rewarding.
