Meet Trailblazer Katie Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Miller.

Katie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Fashion always has been, and always will be, my passion. I started my fashion Instagram page at the end of April 2019. My main goal for this page was to create fun content that was inviting, affordable, and practical for my viewers. Within the Instagram platform, I have connected with amazing people. I have met some awesome girls and have had the opportunity to work with and represent various brands, companies, and other influencers. When I had started @Katiesfashionromance, I knew I wanted to become part of the LiketoKnow.it community. It took me four months of hard work, learning, and struggling until I was finally accepted into the program! This was a HUGE milestone for me and this achievement gave me the confidence that I needed and helped solidify the fact that I was really growing this fashion blog. My next goal is to hit 5,000 sincere, real, and true followers. I do not use any companies to help “gain” my following because I want to create genuine friendships and contacts. What has helped with growing my page has been working with other influencers and participating in giveaways! I have been able to reach a wider audience and indeed, influence my peers. I never imagined I would have an impact on this many people and it warms my heart to see all of the support and love that I have been surrounded by. I am truly grateful for this experience and the people I have met and continue to meet along the way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Indeed, being in charge of my fashion Instagram page has been challenging. The most perplexing part about it for me is that I have absolutely NO background in social media or marketing. I have learned SO MUCH in the seven months that I have been promoting my page and have seen major improvements! Some of the struggles I have faced with this blog have been things like comparing myself too much to the other more successful bloggers, feeling like my clothes are not the newest and most “trending” items, and trying to spread awareness and reach of my page. My husband is my biggest supporter and always tells me NOT to compare myself. I have gotten a lot better at this, but it is certainly a difficult obstacle that everyone on social media seems to face. Next, when I say that I feel like my clothes are not the most “trendy” I say this because I do not have the ability or the comfort to purchase clothing on a daily basis. That is not realistic for me. At the beginning of my blogging career, I was set on getting the newest items and making sure I had enough pieces to post for a week. However, now that I have learned a thing or two, it is NOT about that at all. My favorite thing that I promote on my page is re-wearing items in my closet. It is so fun and very helpful because I like to create affordable, versatile, and creative content. But really, the biggest fear or concern has always been about growing my page. I feel like I have gotten the hang of the strategies that are helpful but it is still something that I worry about. I need to stay aware that each day is different and that my followers will fluctuate. So now, I try to face these challenges with a better perspective on what they truly entail and mean.

For the young women who are just starting out, the best advice that I can give you is to just go for it! Support each other and surround yourself with positivity! It is not always going to be easy, and there are A LOT of haters in the blogging world but DO NOT let them get you down! You are the only thing holding yourself back. I always try to remind myself of that Albert Einstein quote, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Without a doubt, don’t hold back and you’ve got this!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
Well, it’s been a busy year for me and education! Not only have I been learning everything about blogging, but this year I also started substitute teaching elementary school. I just obtained my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, so all of my hard work is starting to pay off! Ultimately, I do plan to teach full time, but with how quickly my blog has taken off, there’s no way I’m stopping any time soon! My fashion blogging has surrounded me with a great community of supporters and people who share the same passions as me! I am so grateful to have this opportunity and to meet new great minds.

Clearly, I am most proud of my acceptance into the LiketoKnow.it Community. This was such an enormous and incredibly important breakthrough for me. I saw how all of the successful bloggers were a part of that platform and I set my own personal goal to get accepted to it as well. It took me four months to get accepted into the LiketoKnow.it Community and I couldn’t be more thankful for my friends who helped me along the way. One friend in particular who helped me was Katie Keever, and I am forever grateful for her guidance and her advice. She is also a fashion blogger and you can find her on Instagram @katiekeever!

I knew I wanted my blog to stand out, so I really try to focus on engaging with every single person who comments on my photos. I converse with them and give them the time of day. I aim to do this to the best of my abilities because I believe it builds character and is the kind thing to do. I have had negative experiences where bloggers who have an incredibly large number of followers do not interact with their followers. To me, it is important to interact with your viewers and to encourage community on this platform. As a whole, the main vibe I like to promote on the daily is positivity. I like to encourage a mindset of growth through community, interactions, and by giving people something to smile about on a regular basis!

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Two women who have inspired me in my lifetime are my mother and my sister. Both of these ladies are connected to my career choices. My mother was a Special Education Kindergarten teacher and my sister was in the fashion business for several years and has always given me the best fashion inspiration! I learned my educational proficiencies and my fashion talents from my family and that means the world to me. I feel SO lucky to have such a close relationship with both of these women and I rely on them immensely. They are always there for me cheering me on and supporting me every step of the way.
