Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Rosson.
Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was raised in Wyoming and therefore had very very limited choices for shopping. So, around the age of 12, I started to sew. I made all my own formal dresses in high school and college and starting in jr high I would either make my clothing or alter it. Because I didn’t like anything in the stores. Around 9th grade, I “knew” I would work in the fashion industry.
So, I went on to college and got a BS in Fashion. After graduation, I worked in retail for about 5 years then I got a buying job with a department store. In 2000, I had my first child and started sewing clothing for her… which ended up turning into a business and for seven years I designed children’s clothing.
Throughout all these careers, I was always helping friends with their closets and shopping for others. About 10 years ago, I started having strangers ask me to help them with their wardrobes and I was like huh? Maybe I should do this for a living! So, fast forward to 2018, I have had an amazing career so far I work primarily with private clients, with some editorial and commercial projects mixed in I LOVE my job because I get to make people feel amazing and look amazing. It’s an incredibly rewarding job!!
Has it been a smooth road?
Styling is competitive and it’s not for everyone. Just because you can put together a fabulous outfit doesn’t make you a stylist. You have to adapt to your clients’ taste, lifestyle, body type, and budget.
I’d suggest reading a lot about body types, working with an established stylist, and shopping a LOT so you are familiar with different stores and designers and which ones will work for each client. Not all stores work for everyone!
We’d love to hear more about Style Your Life.
My specialty is working with REAL people and by this, I mean average men, woman, and teens. These clients work normal jobs and go to normal schools. There is a misconception that you need to be wealthy to hire a stylist. This is not true at all. I help you plan a well thought out, modern, and versatile wardrobe that it 100% you. So, you don’t make those purchases you regret and waste money. When you work with me, you will wear your wardrobe and you will look and feel awesome. When you look and feel awesome, it really impacts the rest of your life and you end up getting that promotion, being a better partner, etc., etc.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Study, research, find a mentor, and be flexible!!!
