Meet Trailblazer Elizabeth Whitt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Whitt.

Elizabeth, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in beautiful Los Angeles, California. My whole family is filled with lawyers, and doctors, I always felt different and wanted to take a creative route in my career. Despite that gut feeling, I went ahead and tried out the college thing just to realize it wasn’t for me… I went to cosmetology school after I had my son and after a long hard almost two years I finished. With a focus on women’s hair and makeup.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a new mom and starting a new career from scratch was honestly very difficult for me. It took long days away from my son and long nights up with him, many missed days and events, but I knew that if I persisted, I would be the best mom and hairstylist I could be. I love what I do and am super passionate about making people feel beautiful inside and out. If I had any advice for women who are just starting their journey it would be… no matter what you’re going through, positive or negative, persistence, dedication and love of your craft will get you through anything.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I specialize in women’s color and styling as well as precision haircutting. I’m known for doing balayage and color corrections. I am proud to specialize in women’s hair because I can change a women’s life and look within hours. I have seen a woman’s confidence skyrocket because of hair color or haircut. Changing women’s lives is extremely important to me. I am not only a hairstylist but a women’s advocate. I listen and love my clients like they are family. I believe my love for my clients sets me apart from the rest

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel like a lot of women who choose to take the creative route with their career are scrutinized or looked down upon. I can’t tell you how many times I have been asked if me being a hairstylist is my main occupation, and yes, it is my main occupation and I am proud of that! Women can be anything from a lawyer to a doctor to a cop, to a hairstylist makeup artist or even be on the big screen. No matter what we choose, we should be praised and raised up my other women and men included.
