Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayler Lenior.
Hi Tayler, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From a young age I have always been a creative spirit with an undeniable passion for fashion and entertainment. Celebrities, designer clothing, fun parties, the old Hollywood, all of this always fascinated me. I feel naturally we all are a little curious to this lifestyle – I mean how can you not be?
But over the years, through various gigs—whether assisting in showrooms, styling for runways / photoshoots, working retail, running around as a PA on set, or actually pursuing my degree in Advertising and working at a digital advertising agency for 4 years, I developed a deep appreciation not just for fashion itself, but for the production side of the industry, where creativity meets strategy and vision becomes reality if you will.
At 30, I had this burning desire to just try something new. I had lived in one city all my life and knew I wanted to apply myself in new ways, especially in a new decade of life.
So, I made a bold move—leaving Chicago for Los Angeles in 2021 to join Netflix, a place where I knew I could find a career that spoke to me. Just six months into an admin role I landed, a casting assistant position opened up, and something clicked. With a rich background in creative production and a growing understanding of the inner workings at Netflix already, it was a natural fit—and the rest, as they say, is history.
And although I have this career, I still found a way to remain connected to my original dream of working in fashion. I recently turned to content creation as a way to creatively express myself and to remove me from the crazy, hectic lifestyle of filmmaking and ground myself in something that makes my spirit happy. Content creation has become an outlet that fulfills my creative brain—allowing me to balance a career I love with a passion that continues to evolve.
Some might say I’m crazy for wanting to peruse this and at such an older age, but it just goes to show it is never too late to try something you love. Never be afraid to evolve and try new things!
I’m very fortunate to be in the situation I’m in and am honestly just living everyday very blessed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing in your career is never typically a smooth road as you go through a lot of bumps but how you navigate those bumps is what matters. One of my main struggles has been that I feel like I’ve always been stuck in the same position but each time I get a new position there’s been a pay raise or more responsibilities, but I’ve still felt like I’ve been stuck which is why now I’m happy and I’m in a position that allows me to do more and I don’t necessarily just feel like an assistant. And with the added component of content creation I really feel like I’m finally in a place where I’m satisfied. Although we can always grow, so I guess I could never be truly satisfied, but I am definitely in a very good spot now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
If we’re talking about my main job, I currently am a Casting assistant. My day-to-day can vary, but it definitely focuses on a lot of general meetings with actors, reading scripts, the occasional movie premiere, making cast lists, going to showcases to find new talent and honestly just staying up-to-date on industry trends. It’s a job that keeps me on my toes and there is never a dull moment!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I find myself to be a very huge risk taker and I highly standby taking risks in life because if you look back 10 years from now and there was something you could’ve done, but you didn’t do it…You’re going to have regrets. The biggest risk I’ve taken was honestly moving across country to attempt a new career. Now looking back, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made and it’s opened up the door to so many different opportunities for me.
