Meet Studio City Makeup & Hairstylist: Gladys Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gladys Ramirez.

She’s incredibly talented, hard working and ambitious.  We’re super impressed with her professionalism, her portfolio and her vision for where she wants to take her career next.  Dreamers are what make LA the greatest city in the world and we’re so excited to share excerpts of our interview with Gladys with you below.

Has it been a smooth road?

It has been a rocky road, it’s definitely a milestone to pack up and move to a new place and start a career in place where you know no one. It’s still pretty much a rocky road because I don’t know many people out here in comparison to the amount of clients I had back in Northern California but I don’t stress as much about my next job because when I do get jobs I save as much as I can to keep me balanced when times are slow.

What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue to grow with film and television, but I also want to expand a lot more into bridal and event makeup. In the past I’ve offered makeup and hair separate from my other services of waxing, facials, detoxification treatments and body wraps. Now I’m thinking of creating packages that offer different options to include waxing and facials as well into my bridal makeup packages. I also plan to expand the distance I travel for my bridal clients to going within and outside of United States.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story.  What was the hardest time you’ve had?

The hardest time in my career was when I decided to move to Burbank from Gilroy (northern California) with no job just some savings and hopes of a career I was truly passionate about. I didn’t work for the first 8 months so I had to keep on a tight budget yet I was in an area that was quite expensive. When I finally started networking and getting makeup jobs out here they would be sparse so i was starting to see my bank account depleted and wasn’t sure when the next job was coming in. I’ve always been pretty independent so to have to think that I might have to ask my family for financial help was something I wanted to avoid, so I picked up a part time job working with a 100% natural skin care line Marisa Berenson at Nieman Marcus.

Do you ever just stop and think WOW – I’ve made it?
I felt like I was in the right path and getting closer to my ultimate goals when I seen a couple of music videos I worked on assisting other makeup artist be released, seeing everyone in the crews work come together is an amazing feeling!
