Meet South Bay Stylist and Marketing Expert: Vee Prince

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vee Prince.

Vee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out doing event production for concerts in undergrad. I graduated and began doing marketing consulting for small businesses, one of which was a boutique. I began styling the mannequins in the window and eventually moved up to producing fashion shows. I worked on the style crew for NY Fashion Week 2 years in a row, and got to work with DVF, Burberry and Christian Siriano. Shortly thereafter, I created an event production company and began co-managing an event space in Downtown LA called Opulen Studios. Currently, I’m launching a plus-size women’s clothing brand called BODYLOVESCAKE.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth working for is ever easy. And nothing has been harder on me than losing my husband earlier this year. He was my biggest supporter. My backbone. My strength. But losing him has been my greatest motivator to follow my dreams even harder. First, because it is exactly what he’d want me to do. He’d say, “Make the best of it, babe.” And that’s what I’m doing. And secondly, because his passing reminded me that time is fleeting and that I don’t have forever to follow my dreams. He is my “angel” investor, and I know that he’s always with me, making sure I’m covered. Nothing can stop me now.

When you look back, can you point to a period when you wanted to quit or a period that was really frustrating?
The toughest moments are when I truly feel alone in my life. It’s kind of like for a moment, you forget about everyone that is rooting for you. That’s how strong your mind is. It can trick you into believing untruths sometimes. So times like those, I’ve always found to be most tough because I then feel like I have to do everything by myself. Some specific times were when I was trying to launch my business and kept running into issues. And I just had to stop, take a break and just come back the next day and attack it with new vigor. I get really frustrated sometimes, and that makes me want to quit. But then I remember all that people that need me to inspire them. What would they do if I quit? They would lose hope. I can’t do that to them or myself.

Let’s change gears – is there any advice you’d like to give?
Get out the house and meet people! Not everyone in LA is full of crap. There are some really good people out here, and most times, they do the same things you like to do. So go out, see some stuff and make some friends. Then get to work! Keep working, keep smiling, and keep trying.

Is there something you are particularly excited about or working towards?
I am most excited to bring in more consistent streams of income, to launch my store-front some day, and to really make a name for myself in the plus-fashion industry. I know it will take time to build my brand and get my footing, but I am so excited because I truly love the plus clothing industry. It is so special because it solves an important problem in support of all women. It says that you can be any size and still be cute, fun, sexy and beautiful. That’s where I want to be!

I’m also excited to start a family someday. Just have a whole mess of kids! I’d love to get married again too. And travel the world. And wear fabulous clothing. And just be happy. I’m making that choice to be happy regardless, but these are my requests of the universe. *smile*
