Meet Soul Poet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soul Poet.

Soul Poet

Hi Soul, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a lifelong musician. Began playing violin at age 5, guitar at 10, mandolin and bass at 12, and more strings along the way. Recorded my first original albums when I was 15, multitracking myself, playing all the instruments just as I do now, but in a more acoustic environment. The music I am creating now lives in a more modern production setting and incorporates the many styles I have worked within over my career. After attending college on a vocal scholarship, where I graduated with a degree in commercial music production, I began working in several styles, including hip-hop, fusion jazz, rock, and pop, eventually finding myself a founding member of an entertainment band. I have also been producing music for a wide variety of artists from all over the world in my studio, The Eagle Room, over the past 15 years. Soul Poet music combines the musical and production techniques I have utilized throughout my life and glimpses into the future with inventive compositions and the use of melody and harmony.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge I have faced is running a studio business while trying to set aside time to produce my own music, but the experiences I have working with other artists can also be inspiring and give me a well-rounded perspective that I am so grateful to have.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A few things that set me apart from other artists… I like to think of myself as a “full stack” developer for music. After writing and arranging, I can record myself performing all of the parts on various instruments, edit, program other production elements, mix and master the music from start to finish. So, when you hear my music, every nuance has been carefully crafted. Perhaps one of the most unique parts of my sound is the intricate string arrangements found within most of my songs. I like to use strings to reinforce the dynamics and harmonic movement of the overall piece and to frame the melodies in interesting ways, often word-painting the lyrics or playing counter melodies.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The integrity of each song and ensuring that the artistry extends to the recording and production so that the music reaches listeners in the optimal way to evoke an emotional response.
