Meet Shantelle Lee Cuevas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantelle Lee Cuevas.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My artistic story is fairly new, to be honest. While growing up, I was more interested in math and science, which lead me to earn my bachelor’s degree in Biology/Forensics. But while in college, I took an acting class and right away fell in love with it. It allows me to connect to my emotional side and fills me with joy when I make the audience feel something. I love being able to put myself in a person’s shoes and tell their story authentically.

Please tell us about your art.
I am an actress, and I enjoy every second of it! I use my emotional instrument to portray all kinds of different stories, stories of humans that either weren’t heard or told out loud. My message or inspiration from this would be to do something that fills you with passion all the while touching the lives of people. My artwork is just in its beginning stages, but I know it will grow immensely as I continue to water and cherish it to be the greatest that it can be.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think conditions for artists are quite difficult in this day and age. I feel like before social media, people had to search for the true artists and real art was appreciated for its authenticity. Nowadays, it’s whoever has the most followers that is worth looking at whether they have an actual talent or not. I hope that cities like ours can encourage true artistry and support the artists that have true love/passion for the craft. Instead of encouraging stupidity, we should encourage things that tell stories and pull at our heartstrings. Those are the things that deserve to be preserved.
