Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Brocker.
Shae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I like to consider myself a “recovering conventional path follower” in that I spent the first 25 years of my life doing all the things I was “supposed” to do. I played softball my entire life, attended undergrad on a scholarship, went on to complete my M.A. in Sport Management, and landed what I thought was my dream job. I was on my way to a successful career in the sports industry, but after 2.5 years in that job, I was burnt out, exhausted, and miserable. My relationships suffered, my depression was at an all-time high, and I felt more lost than ever.
This experience drove me to re-evaluate what I wanted out of life and after realizing that my mental and physical health was far more important than any job, I took a leap of faith and left. This was the first time in my life that I had no plan, but I knew if I continued on I would not be a happy person. After a few weeks, I was offered a part-time marketing position working for an athletic training company from home. I began with limited hours, no benefits, and my family thought I was nuts! I had student loans to pay off and myself to support, but there was something inside of me that said “the only opinion that matters is yours” so I went all in.
During this time period, I dove into personal development and spirituality. I was raised catholic but felt very disconnected from my faith in my early twenties so in hopes of reigniting my spirituality I read “The Universe Has Your Back” by Gabby Bernstein and my world changed. Her words gave me permission to re-write my beliefs and create a spiritual practice unique to me and my desires. It opened up my mind and allowed me to trust that the Universe had a far greater plan for me. This led me to a deep interest in all things “woo woo”- from crystals to meditation, to tarot cards, and beyond.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and when I began working from home it really opened up my mind to the possibility of starting my own company to help women with the exact struggles I’ve faced. So I hired a life and business coach and after a few sessions I knew that coaching women was exactly what I wanted to do as it would allow me to serve others and live a fulfilled life. So, in 2018 I launched my coaching business Her Healthy Hustle.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! My path has caused me a ton of overwhelm and motivated me to dig deep. Throughout my life, I have re-invented myself multiple times, starting with a 50-pound weight loss at age 19. Growing up, an athlete gave me tons of confidence, but during my sophomore year of college, I began to feel like total crap, not only in my energy but also my self-esteem. I always struggled with my weight, but until I hit my breaking point, I didn’t realize what an impact it had on my worthiness and overall mindset. After four months of weight watchers, I had dropped more weight than I thought possible and felt like a new person. Although it terrified me to walk into Weight Watchers at such a young age and face the music, it truly created a strong foundation for a healthy lifestyle and taught me so much about food and myself, which I will forever be grateful for.
Another struggle I faced was letting go of my identity as an athlete. After deciding that the sports industry wasn’t the industry I wanted to pursue, I had to get uncomfortable and come to terms with the fact that that part of my life was in the past. Everything that was comfortable to me wasn’t going to fulfill me and letting go of that identity was a feat in itself.
One other struggle that sticks out was when I transitioned to working from home. I thought it would be a breeze being the organized, self-starter that I am, but it was a much bigger struggle than I had imagined. Having the flexibility to work whenever from wherever took a toll on my productivity which prompted me to create my own structure and figure out how to sustain the work from home life, in a way that felt good to me.
Please tell us about Her Healthy Hustle.
The mission of Her Healthy Hustle is to inspire and empower women to stop playing small and unapologetically pursue the life of their dreams. When I first started Her Healthy Hustle is 2018, my goal was to help women transition from office life to working from home. As I mentioned above, this was a huge struggle for me, but after figuring out a way to successfully sustain the lifestyle myself, I knew I could help others do the same.
After working with a few clients, I identified that mindset and confidence were the biggest determinant in having the strength and wherewithal to pursue the life of their dreams. These experiences led me to uncover my niche which is to help women unleash what I like to call “bad bitch confidence” by optimizing their wellness- mentally, physically and spiritually.
With my clients, I guide them on a personal journey to uncover tools and strategies that work for them. This can include re-writing limiting beliefs, developing healthy habits to keep them grounded and connected, and creating a spiritual toolbox that they can utilize daily and lean into when life gets tough. Through my work, I wholeheartedly believe that prioritizing our wellness helps us develop unwavering confidence in ourselves and in the Universe, and the transformations I have fostered proves that.
I work with everyone from business owners to stay at home moms. Helping women reinvent themselves and tap into their highest potential is my sweet spot!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is going on family vacations to the river. Because I had such a busy schedule being an athlete and competed most weekends, I really enjoyed these relaxing times and being on the water- call it the Scorpio in me!
