Meet Sasha Vasha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Vasha.

Sasha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went to art school when I was a kid and really enjoyed spending time at the easel for hours sketching the details of a painting. I dreamed of becoming a clothing designer, possibly an interior designer. Then I got interested in collaging in Photoshop. Eventually, I realized that I needed to create my own photos for processing.

Later I went to college, where I majored in Photography Technique and Art, and in second year I did an internship in a photography studio called Foto-FM and ended up getting a position as a photographer. There I learned how to interact with the model, practiced lightning schemes, tried something of my own. That was in 2010-2013. later on, I went completely freelance photographer. I really liked taking pictures of people. Showing them alive as they are and adding a little bit of my own vision, which was in styling and lighting preferences. That’s how I began to shoot model tests. First at home in a small room with one window and white walls. I had a backdrop holder and the usual fabrics. Then, more clients came and I moved almost all my shoots to a photo studio that suited me. In 2021, I ended up in Los Angeles. I started meeting local models and photographers. I did a lot of collaborations. Started again at home in a small room with white walls. Now I mostly shoot in FD studios

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve always been quite shy, but at the same time, I really liked to get to know and communicate with people. Photography is just a great opportunity for this. There were different periods of life when there were no clients at all and I have to be ready for this. There was a period when I stopped shooting, then started again. After the break, something new always came. There were difficulties of various kinds. I have learned to be more flexible and find options here and now with what is at hand.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Now I mostly work with people who like my style. Most often, it is a black-and-white portrait. But I also shoot in color, for sure. I really happy to meet clients who prefer my style, and help them it’s a pleasure for me. I specialize in studio portraits. There are a lot of subgenres. Most of all, I like to shoot a personality with its features in basic clothes so that the image does not drag the attention on itself. There is something interesting in every person and it can be shown due to light and form, compliance and bringing some detail of your own into the process. I am probably most satisfied with the fact that I am engaged in my favorite activity and benefit people who choices me. It’s a great joy when they receive their photos and write how happy and satisfied they are with the result. This autumn charges me and I feel a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to please myself and people in this way

How do you think about happiness?
To opportunity to do what you love, get beautiful aesthetic pictures and share this joy with customers. I also spend a lot of time retouching. This is an opportunity to bring it better. I don’t change a person’s appearance, but I try to make a picture as clean as possible. This process acts like meditation for me
