Meet Roxane and Lester Bayang of Bayang Art and Music Collective in Carson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxane and Lester Bayang.

Roxane and Lester, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband and I both grew up in Carson, California. We live and teach in our community, which makes what we do even more special. Les teaches music and I teach art. While working together at Stephen M. White Middle School in Carson, our programs naturally developed into a family of artists and musicians. We found the need to open up a creative space where people are welcomed to express themselves through the Arts.

Has it been a smooth road?
Since our Grand Opening in January 2019, we have been fortunate to have the love and support of our community. Within our first year, we participated in local festivals, filled our lesson calendar, hosted private events, held art workshops, art shows, and concerts.

However, like many small businesses, this year has been challenging for us. We have been closed since March due to the COVID-19 stay home order. The studio is quiet. We miss sharing our space with people, especially during First Fridays, our Open Mic and Art Studio Night, which has been postponed until further notice.

We are looking forward to having a safe reopening for private lessons in September, as changes at the studio are being made to protect our clients’ health.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a small family-owned business. The Bayang Art and Music Collective specializes in private lessons in art and music. We love hosting art workshops, as well as art shows that celebrate culture and diversity, incorporating themes like International Women’s Day and Filipinx American History Month. We hold an array of concerts and are currently live streaming local bands for people to enjoy at home during quarantine.

We are also privileged to host monthly SoundBaths with our friend Sistah Kandice of Nourishing Your Livity. We definitely miss sharing space with her.

Les and I work well with one another. We are honored to have the opportunity to share what we love to do with others. Ultimately, The Bayang Art and Music Collective is proud to combine our efforts with community leaders to cultivate a stronger sense of unity and appreciation for the Arts.
