Meet Quincy Middleton of DJ GoofyQ in Sacramento

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Middleton.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was first introduced to the art of DJ’n at Howard University my freshmen year. I lived on the same floor of as a DJ. We instantly became solid friends. I started off by simply helping with transport and moving all his equipment. I given was the name “Mr Get it”. I was known across campus as the person who finds you anything under the sun. So when it came to DJ’n, I was the one that called to get a car so we can move the speakers and etc.

I would spend the night standing behind my DJ mentor and friend DJ Outloud. He actually got annoyed of me standing there and told me, “If you’re going to stand here you got do something.” And then handed me the mic. In that moment, YahostGoofy was born. So before I became a DJ, I was an MC.

Now while MC’n, I would continue to watch and learn. Outloud would leave for bathroom breaks or to go dance for a minute or two and leave me to it. So I would mix in a song here and there to the best of my abilities at the time. But one-night Outloud made the decision he wasn’t coming back. Now he didn’t just up and leave me without any warning. On this particular night, he had been flirting with this girl all night with his song selection. She finally ya enough walked over and told him it was time to go. I and the rest of the party watched him leave. As soon he walked out, all those eyes immediately turned to me. I made it through the night in one piece. Actually, the night went pretty well. Needless to say, on that night YahostGoofy became a DJ. This is happened in 2010.

Fast forward to 2017. I’m back in California. I haven’t touched anything DJ related in about four years. I spent the time off focused on school and hoop. But at this point, I beginning to miss the nightlife. So I started to look around Sacramento and The Bay for things to do and get into. I eventually found myself at a Liitnation party.

Liitnation is an event promotional team based in The Bay Area but had their hands in events all over the west coast. Liitnation parties reminded me of HU and I wanted to be apart of they were doing. I frequently pulled up to their events, and always made sure I spoke to the founder and leader of Liitnation who is known as Cashmere Santana. I worked and found clever ways to show him I could be useful to what he was building. Over time I worked my way up into the inner circle and became part of the leadership as one of the head promoters and event coordinators.

Liitnation was big. We controlled a large portion of the college season on such a level that we would through multiple events in different cities at the same time. Well one weekend, we collaborated with another promo team to coordinate a series of events. It was all set to where none of them overlapped so we could Have successful events. Well that was the plan. One of the events was forced to change their date and time for unforeseen reasons. The new time for the event ending up being the same date and time as the event I was overseeing. That created a problem because the DJ I hired was at the other event and showed no signs of leaving. So now I have an event with no DJ. I haven’t touched anything DJ related in several years and I don’t have any DJ equipment. I left it all in DC at Howard. From that day, I vowed I would never let that happen again. I quickly got my hands on DJ equipment and immediately got back at it.

I worked myself back into form and became Liitnation head DJ. We flourished. But with success comes the urge to expand and grow. It eventually led to me professionally parting ways with Liitnation. I did a rebranding changing my name from YahostGoofy to DJ GoofyQ. And set out to make a name for myself.

Venturing out on my own, I was introduced to David B. He one of the most recognizable names in the Underground AfterHours scene. I was introduced to world of strictly 21+. In this new world, I was exposed to new things. Things that you hear about in whispers and see in movies. Everything from yacht parties to those private invite Parties that are under lock and key. With all the newfound access I was introduced to where I am now, HYPE-Radio.com.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. For me early on, I had to learn how to read a crowd. I had to learn how to read the room and control a room and crowd of people with my song selection. And to make matters worst it Howard University. HU has produced some of the most influential and legendary entertainers. With that level of prestige it has created one of the toughest crowds. HU boo’d Kanye with zero hesitation.

When I made my way back to Cali. I had to learn what is known as hood politics. In Sacramento, there are different neighborhoods with different artists, and they all don’t get along. So as a DJ it’s our responsibility to know to what hood we in and which artist you can and can not play.

Please tell us about DJ GoofyQ.
I’m an all-purpose DJ. I am the MC for all my events, I promote my own events, and well as DJ.

I have done events along the lines of Wedding, birthday parties, nonprofit organization banquets, night clubs, corporate events, gentlemen clubs, yacht parties, youth church events, and Radio.

Moment I’m most proud of when I DJ’d for the church for the first time. This moment was special for me because it was the first time my dad got to hear me DJ.

What sets me apart from the rest is that I’m versatile. Being able to manage myself and conduct such a variety of events sets me apart.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my greatest quality and/or characteristic is my professionalism. One thing that I have noticed is the fact that I am professional keeps me in positive circles. I got a job based on my professional manner. They never heard me spin or anything. Just because they were told, I was well mannered and professional.
