Today we’d like to introduce you to Pearl Aday.
Hi Pearl, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born into music. My biological father was the drummer for Janis Joplin’s Full Tilt Boogie Band. I am named Pearl after her famous nickname given to her affectionately by Kris Kristofferson. My actual dad who adopted me legally when he met my mother in 1979 and raised me is singer/actor Meat Loaf who sadly passed in 2022. My mother also worked in the music industry. I grew up performing as well, in school and bands, songwriting from a very young age. It’s all I ever wanted to do. I spent most of my childhood watching professional performers at a very close range. At the end of my high school years I joined my father’s touring band and began my own professional music career. I continued to sing with him for 9 years touring all over the world, performing in iconic venues for princes and presidents, and audiences of thousands. I then moved on to join Mötley Crüe as a member of their touring organization, and doing session work for other bands, and then forming a solo band of my own original music which went on to tour the US and Europe headlining and supporting bands like Velvet Revolver and Heart, and appearing on late night TV twice.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The music business is always hard. You have to be thick-skinned and relentlessly determined. Whether it’s critics, fighting for a slot on a stage, the ever-changing industry, or the overwhelming sexism that still dominates our world, there is always something to contend with.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am first and foremost, professionally I am a singer and a songwriter. I’ve recorded several albums of original material released on two record labels. I also work in conjunction with other artists and songwriters writing music for their projects. Personally, my proudest achievement is becoming a great mother to my amazing son who I give my whole heart and soul to, raising him with my amazing husband. All three of us are professionals in the music industry. My husband founded the band Anthrax in the early 80s and they are bigger and stronger now than they’ve ever been. He is also a member of the alt metal band Mr. Bungle with singer Mike Patton of Faith No More fame. Our son is a multi instrumentalist being the drummer in his band XCOMM on Blowed Out Records, as well as the guitarist in a new secret project yet to be announced. All three of us have new albums set to release in 2026.
I also have a custom couture collaboration line called Pearl X Romp with my partner Nina Morgan Jones of Romp London, and I am currently working on two other writing projects.
I am proud of my family and of all my work.
What matters most to you?
Authenticity matters. Finding yourself and staying true to that, sharing your individuality in your own work and leaving a piece of yourself in your work with others. The mark of a true artist.
