Meet Omid Taheri of Irvine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omid Taheri.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my academic journey pursuing a Biomedical Engineering degree with a pre‑medical emphasis, driven by a strong interest in science, problem‑solving, and helping others through technology. That path changed suddenly when my father suffered a traumatic brain injury at work. Overnight, I was thrust into the role of head of household, working alongside my mother to take full responsibility for our family business. During this period, I helped restructure and stabilize the operations to ensure our family’s financial security, an experience that profoundly shaped my resilience, leadership, and ability to adapt under pressure.
Once I knew my family was on solid ground, I entered the job market leveraging my engineering background, which eventually led me to a career as a Senior Quality Systems Engineer. Throughout that time, my passion for technology continued to grow, particularly in systems, automation, and infrastructure. This interest ultimately guided me toward a transition into IT, where I found a natural alignment with my technical strengths and problem‑solving mindset. Today, I work as a Systems Administrator, combining my engineering foundation, operational experience, and love of technology to build reliable, efficient systems and support the organization I serve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nearly twelve years ago, our family experienced a life‑altering trauma when my father suffered a catastrophic brain injury at work just one day after Christmas. The timing made an already unimaginable situation even more devastating, turning a season of joy into one of fear and uncertainty. Doctors were unsure he would survive, and for a long time his prognosis was grim. When he did pull through, we faced a new heartbreak…he did not remember the accident, our life before it, or even who we were. The man we knew as our father was suddenly a stranger to himself and to us, and we were forced to grieve him while he was still alive.
What followed was a long, exhausting, and deeply emotional journey that required years of physical therapy, unwavering family support, and relentless perseverance. Progress came slowly and was often hard‑won, but through consistent rehabilitation and the love surrounding him, my father reached a point where he could regain a meaningful level of independence. The toll it took on our family was immense (emotionally, physically, and financially) and there was no larger support system to lean on. It was only my mother, my brother, and myself who had to piece everything back together, learning to navigate a new reality while holding our family together. That experience reshaped each of us permanently and taught us the true weight of resilience, sacrifice, and unconditional commitment to one another.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My career didn’t follow a straight line and that’s what defines it. I began in the medical‑device industry, building my foundation in quality and regulatory systems where precision, accountability, and risk management weren’t optional; they were critical. Over several years, I worked my way from Quality and Regulatory Specialist to Senior Quality Systems Engineer, leading audits, system validations, and CAPA investigations across domestic and international operations. I partnered with global teams to standardize quality systems, navigated FDA, ISO 13485, and EU MDR requirements, and helped the organization I work for adapt under pressure, including during the unprecedented disruptions of COVID‑19. That chapter of my career forged a disciplined, systems level mindset and taught me how strong processes quietly protect people, products, and business continuity.
That same mindset ultimately led me into IT, where I found the intersection of systems thinking and technology I had always been drawn to. After getting my hands dirty on the help desk, I stepped into a Systems Administrator role supporting over 400 users across offices and warehouses. Since then, I’ve led company‑wide infrastructure initiatives such as rolling out SD‑WAN across multiple sites, migrating core services to Azure, modernizing endpoint management through Intune, and designing secure mobile and identity strategies. I’ve automated workflows, strengthened disaster recovery planning, and reduced downtime for critical systems by focusing on resilience and continuous improvement. Today, my work is about making complex systems feel invisible to the people who rely on them; secure, stable, and ready long before anyone realizes they’re needed.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
None of my accomplishments stand on their own, they exist because of my mother. Through every stage of my life, especially during the most painful and uncertain moments, she has been the steady force holding everything together. When our family was tested in ways we never imagined, her strength never wavered. She carried the weight of responsibility, fear, and exhaustion with quiet determination, all while making sure my brother and I had the support, belief, and encouragement we needed to keep going. Her faith in us never cracked, even when the path forward felt impossible, and that belief gave me the confidence to keep moving forward when I otherwise might not have.
Her unwavering support has been the foundation beneath every step I’ve taken academically, professionally, and personally. Knowing she was always there allowed me to take risks, pivot when life demanded it, and push through hardship without losing sight of what mattered. She reminded us that progress doesn’t require perfection, only perseverance, and that no setback defines the end of the story. No matter what challenges we have faced or will face in the future, her presence continues to be our anchor. Everything I’ve built, and everything I continue to strive toward, is rooted in the love, resilience, and sacrifice she has given our family without hesitation.
Just as importantly, I have been incredibly fortunate to find that same sense of unwavering support in my fiancée. Since the moment we met, she has been there for me without exception, standing beside me through every challenge, uncertainty, and moment of doubt. No matter how difficult things became, I never had to face them alone. She met every obstacle with patience, compassion, and quiet strength, offering support not only when it was easy, but when it was most needed.
She has been a constant beacon of positivity, warmth, and kindness, grounding me when life felt overwhelming and lifting me when I struggled to see the way forward. Her belief in me has never faltered, even in moments when I questioned myself, and that steady confidence has made all the difference. She has brought a sense of balance, perspective, and reassurance into my life that continues to shape who I am and who I strive to become. With her by my side, I have learned what it truly means to feel supported unconditionally, and that has given me the strength to keep moving forward, no matter what lies ahead.
