Meet Nisey Turner of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisey Turner

Hi Nisey , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing my YouTube beauty channel (YT) as well as my Instagram (IG) in 2017 and I started out with just the light in my room and a MacBook Air at the time. Getting started I had no real direction, I just knew I wanted to make beauty content with integrity. That being said a lot of my content was me just putting my honest opinion, I wanted my followers to know that I couldn’t be bought. You can say I was on the path to debunking things in the beauty industry. As I started making more and more content around late 2018 I was gifted with a ring light as well as full professional light set up as well. By this time I’ve done reviews on Kylie Cosmetics, Jeffery Star (before the drama), and Beauty Bakerie just to name a few! Aspiring to be like Jackie Aina or Makeup Shayla was a goal but make it me if that makes sense. However, come 2019 college became really started to swallow me. I remember going to Vidcom 2018 and an inspiring creator of mine pushed for the idea of college as well as how far he believes one can go in content. In his photo opps I asked him if he finished college and he said “No…if you’re contemplating college or content pick college.” That stuck with me so much that I took a break and finished getting my BA from Cal State Dominguez Hills. I finished school in 2020 and started reconnecting with YouTube and Instagram after a long break, which was scary becasue I became insecure about my content. With the encouragement from my mom and friends I was able to push through my insecurities of getting back into filming. That’s when I purchased my Canon camera, which really improved the quality of my content. As I continue to further build out my content by collaborating with other creators and running ads on various platforms. I have also extended my content to TikTok which has my all attention from YT and IG.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some struggles was college, I was taking 5 classes in spring and fall along with classes in summer and winter. I was acting as well, I’ve done theatre my entire college career and after graduating. I also lost my only grandparent in 2019 as well, that was tough because it was so unexpected and he was truly my number cheerleader when it came to becoming successful with my content creation. Also I raised a dog and that was a whole journey within itself! I have also moved out of my parent house and living on my own hasn’t been easy especially because I have experienced being laid off. However I’m starting to pick up the pieces and get back to making content. Meanwhile I’m also funding my own content so buying various beauty products as well as equipment the tab was eating me for awhile but I learned sometimes a ring light and a camera is all you need sometimes.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have a full time job whilst creating content. What set me apart from other is I haven’t lost a part of who I am which is making sure that if the setting spray doesn’t hold up for 12 hours I show that without touching up my face to be on trend with other popular beauty content creators that are all saying how great a product is. As well as making sure I show my good moments as well as not so good moments. Most creators dont really show their vulnerable side when it comes to content which I have to even remind myself that I’m not a robot and that it’s not always sunny all the time.

I am proud to say that I was nominated for an Irene Ryan for Best Supporting Actress during my senior year of college! Although I didnt get a chance to compete due to the global pandemic that is something no one can take away from me. I have also been in a google commercial and worked on sets as a PA! so I love being in the entertainment industry in anyways so I will always look for ways to keep my self on set and stages.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I love a good laugh and making people laugh so I try to bring that with all of my content. I also feel like small or large engagement is success for me because I may be a micro-influencer but if everyone following me on IG walked into a room I’d be overwhelmed. So I want to continue to make people feel warm and like I’m just their virtual homegirl. I cant wait to have more followers and all of the things.
