Today we’d like to introduce you to Nelson Estevez.
Nelson, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I primarily started as a working actor. In this line of business, you are always in the process of auditioning or “looking for” your next job/role. I made a creative decision to also create opportunities and have my perspective told through visuals and audio by creating content such as short films, upcoming features, and tv/episodic through online distribution/streaming.
Has it been a smooth road?
The process of auditioning and creating content has many ups and downs but once the final product is finished, it can be very rewarding. One common struggle is finding the finances or investors in order to complete these projects. As a new upcoming filmmaker it can be challenging since you cannot present a body of work in proving to sponsors that one can execute and create quality content.
Another struggle can be finding the right team players in front and behind the camera. Filmmaking is a collective effort and every team member has to be on the same page in the creative process.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Estevez Enterprise Group story. Tell us more about the business.
Estevez Enterprise Group is a production company that specializes in creating content for media, film, and/or TV. The president of the company, Nelson Estevez is an actor who has been known for working n the commercial and TV/Film realm (Honda, Captain Morgan, AARP, Tyler Perry’s Acrimony starring Taraji P. Henson to name a few credits). EEG is dedicated as a production company to provide a platform, creative voice and vehicle for aspiring and established filmmakers, actors and for targeted viewers.
EEG is most proud of their new debut Short Film, “Tubby Hook,” which will debut in upcoming film festivals (TBA) in 2019. The project is currently in post-production and will bring awareness to the neighborhood of Inwood, Manhattan in the 1980’s when there was some “tension” between the Irish and Dominican residents in the neighborhood.
What sets us apart from others is the cultural perspectives in our upcoming stories. We are excited to bring more awareness to the Caribbean-American culture through our stories and find a connectivity in order to attract other demographics.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The Hispanic community in the United States has been a huge consumer market and we are forecasting that it will have a stronger presence in media/entertainment.
This means that there will be a significant demand for diversity in the industry (which is already occurring in front and behind the camera) in order to cater to these shifts and changes. EEG will be there to compliments these shifts and trends by proving through our body of work.
