Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Berry.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Morgan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Before pursuing voice-over, my training as an actor began in 2004 with school theater, and I eventually joined a local performing arts studio in 2007. It was a great opportunity for me to experience many different sides of the performing arts. I trained as a singer, dancer, actor (both on-stage and on-camera), and I even got the chance to work behind the scenes. I was a director, stage manager, and casting director for various productions. I then went on to study the art of voice acting at KD Studio in 2014, and not too long after that I started voice acting in various anime titles for Funimation Entertainment.
In addition to my acting career, I’m also very proud of my music career. I’m a recording artist and I have been singing practically all my life, but I didn’t start taking my music career seriously until I was in high school. In that time, I’ve had the honor of performing at some exciting venues including the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, the Toyota Center, the American Airlines Center, and Bass Hall. You can find my original music by searching my name “Morgan Berry”, but if you want to hear my song covers, you can find that music under my stage name “The Unknown Songbird”.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road of life is full of potholes and detours. I never expected to be where I am today, but I am so grateful for it. Every pothole on the road ended up preparing me for this journey. Saying “show business is difficult” would be an incredible understatement. I’ve been scammed, I’ve been rejected, I’ve been ignored, I’ve been discouraged, and this is all so common in the world of show business. I had to learn how to navigate this industry all on my own, so I have definitely had my fair share of bumpy roads and potholes on this journey.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a professional voice actor and recording artist. I’m best known for my voice acting work in various anime television series, films, and video games. I’ve had the pleasure of working on some of my favorite titles. Some of those titles being: “My Hero Academia”, “Pokemon: Twilight Wings”, “Dragon Ball Super”, “Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius”, “Fire Emblem”, “Miraculous LadyBug”, “Marvel Avengers Academy”, “Borderlands 3”, “One Piece”, “Love Live! Sunshine!!”, and “Sword Art Online”.
There are many different areas of voice-over. I specialize in anime dubbing and video games, but I have also trained in other areas of voice-over including mo-cap, looping, commercial VO, and promos. In this industry, you can never assume that you’re done training. Never stop learning. I always make sure to choose my voice-over coaches very carefully. This industry is full of scams, so you have to be vigilant and make sure you don’t end up wasting your money on an amateur who claims they know how the industry works. It could be detrimental to your career if you are being taught wrong or out-dated information, so I make sure to always train with voice-over coaches that continue to work consistently in the voice-over industry and have at least ten years of professional experience. I highly encourage others to do the same extensive research before committing to a VO coach. The details matter.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In show business, a lot of people assume that fame is the result of success. But to me, I’m just happy that I’m able to do what I love and support myself while doing it. I feel successful because even with the ups and downs of this journey, there’s nowhere else I would rather be.
