Meet Mikey Teeze of Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Teeze

Hi Mikey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey of being in the hair industry when I was 16 years old just having fun doing my friends hair in my parents garage with funky colors and punky edgy haircuts. I found love in the craft to be able to express myself through hair in creativity and after I graduated Highschool I wasn’t looking for other colleges to accept me, I was looking for cosmetology programs that were the best to attend and work to get my license. Fast forward to getting my license and trying to find my place in a salon was a bit challenging because after school I had no guidance, it was like I was then on my own and I had to figure it out which I did. Over years of different salon in different cities, working for different stylists assisting them and so on I learned a lot especially through education courses I took. I wanted to be good at both mens hair, women’s hair and color so I continued to take these courses over the years. I later opened my first salon then soon to be a second location while simultaneously working for 4 different companies educating on top of creating my own educational course with a friend of mine on top of creating a product line/brand so to say the least I was wearing many hats at one time. I now have sold both locations I had built, renting a station as an independent contractor now and putting full focus to my product line on top of educating now for 2 different companies as this is what I wish to do moving forward full time to be in brand development. So far its been one hell of a journey and so thankful for where its brought me, the connections I’ve made, the people I’ve met and places its taken me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t a smooth road because in the world of artistry you have to build everything from the ground up and in that time the struggles of not having enough money, having to sell personal belongings to afford tools, barely eating were all experienced. But in those times I never once wanted to try and do anything else. I loved what I did and had full faith in myself for who I wished to become.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in many different things in the hair world but I would say my favorite is edgy haircuts and vivid colors. Not that many people out there know how to do edgy/punk/scene hair and since I lived in that world when I was younger I get it and am Abe to offer that to clients.

What were you like growing up?
I was always intrigued with things I didn’t understand that I wanted to understand by always asking questions and thinking outside of the norm. I was very social, always going to punk shows, meeting new people, loved skateboarding and being active. I have always been active even until this day.
