Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Ceja Morales.
Hi Marlene, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up with a lot of horror/pop culture background because of my father. He introduced so many movies, comics books, etc. with me as a way of bonding. So, I was always really into storytelling and anything creative. I didn’t officially get into makeup until moving away from home. I wasn’t on speaking terms with my family at the time, and I felt really alone. I began using makeup as a way to make myself feel better when I was down, but the moment I would pick up a brush, it would fill something in me I didn’t know was even there. It started to become something that I couldn’t help but want to share with others and create as much as my heart desired. I wanted to learn as much as I possibly could. So decided to attend school for it, and it became something I eventually turned into a career for myself.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I definitely had some setbacks along the way. I struggled a lot with my confidence and mental health. Whenever I had an episode, it was the only time in my life, no matter how badly I wanted to create, I just physically couldn’t. And it took me out for years. I had a lot of love and support from my family, and if it were not for them, I don’t think I would be where I am today. I am incredibly grateful for my family and friends.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional makeup artist. I specialize in beauty and face painting and am currently training in Special Fx. I am usually known for Halloween Makeup & Beauty. I am the most proud of how much I have grown as an artist. Starting from just doing Beauty Makeups to eventually creating my very own character makeups. I think what sets me apart from others is how hard I push myself to keep going and learning even when things become extremely challenging in my life. I don’t allow anything to stop me from achieving my dreams and aspirations.
What are your plans for the future?
I am looking to eventually open up my own shop, whether that be a makeup studio or an SFX Lab. It’s something I’m extremely passionate to get started on. And I’m also looking forward to attempt to work at my first Haunt this year. I really enjoy Halloween, and one of my dreams has been to work at either Knotts Scary Farm or Halloween Horror Nights. So, I’m looking forward to making this a reality.
